Most weddings take a year or two to plan, but with this month by month guide we’re going to help you plan your dream wedding in 6 months.
6 Months to Go
Before you can start planning the wedding of your dreams it’s important to decide on a budget. By giving yourself a realistic budget for your big day you can ensure that you can afford to have everything you want and that you won’t start married life worried about money. We even have our own online Budget Planning Tool for you to use, for free.
Once you’ve got your budget sorted the first step in planning your wedding in 6 months is getting the dress. It’s important to get this done in the first month as it can take time for dresses to be sent to stockist and any alterations can also take a while.
5 Months to Go
The next step in planning your wedding is to pick a wedding date. The way to do this on such short notice is by finding your dream venue and discussing what dates they have available. You may have to be flexible and you might end up having your wedding on a weekday, but this will make securing suppliers easier. If you’re having trouble finding a stunning venue that will be available to soon, you should head to our venue directory with a category dedicated to Late Availability Venues.
When you’ve placed a deposit on the venue and have a wedding date it’s time to send out your invitations and the all-important RSVPs. 5 months gives your guests-to-be plenty of time to ensure they are available and to take time off work if they need to, it also gives you an idea of numbers so you can start creating seating plans and booking suppliers.
4 Months to Go
This month is the time to find the best suppliers for your big day, photographers, caterers, entertainers, everything to make your big day extra special. While some may already be booked, you will likely get your first or second choice! This is by far the most delicious month as you will be tasting cakes, trying food for your wedding breakfast and creating fantastic menus for your guests. It can be quite difficult to know exactly where to start when looking for suppliers; thankfully we have a complete Wedding Supplier Directory with everything you need to create your big day.
3 Months to Go
It’s been 2 months since you sent out your invitation, so now is the time to start chasing down the RSVPs that haven’t been sent back yet. Now is a good time to start giving gentle reminders.
Now is also time to double check that you’ve booked all the suppliers that you’re going to want. If there’s anything that you look back on and realise that you forgot about you’ll still have plenty of time to book them and you are still likely to be able to get them for your big day.
2 Months to Go
Once you have an accurate count for guests you can send this number to suppliers so they can begin preparing for your wedding. At this point you may want to start chasing any stray RSVPs, just so that you know exactly who’s coming and who’s not. You can also finish off personalising favours and complete your seating plan.
This month is also the time to get all your accessories, with the wedding a matter of weeks away it’s time to start solidifying your wedding look. This means buying veils, jewellery, parasols, hats, shoes, all the things to give your dress that extra wow factor. You should also start looking into wedding hair and makeup, 2 months give you time to try different styles and find that perfect look for your wedding.
