Real Engagement – Ivonette & Ken

Ken took Ivonette to Scotland, and if that wasn’t fun enough – he used that age-old trick of putting the small ring box inside a big box! When she found it, the bride-to-be was speechless for at least a few minutes – and then of course she said yes!

What is your first name?

Ivonette

Who is the groom?

Ken

When is your wedding?

14th September 2013

How and when did you meet?

We met 4years ago in May and have been inseparable since!

Where, when and how did he propose?

It was so romantic! We had driven to the Scottish Highlands for a 7 day mini holiday retreat.  Otter Pool Lodge overlooked the famous River Spey, complete with a Jacuzzi, log burner and stunning views across the river and the Cairngorm Mountains, it was the most amazing hideaway.

Funny enough all my friends who knew we were going away kept suggesting that I was going to return with a big rock on my finger, but I brushed them off as I didn’t think it was going to happen yet (even though we had discussed it a few times previously).

So when we got to the lodge on the Friday evening, I set out looking at the fabulous rooms in the lodge, oblivious to what was going on in the living room. I came back into the living room with a camera, taking photos of the place. I even took photos of the little silver box in front of the log burner without realising what it was! Then suddenly I had another look and though it was a bit strange having a silver decorated box right in front of the fire.

I went over to have a look at it, and as I was opening the box whilst asking Ken what it was, before I knew it he was on his knee in front of me and I was opening inside what revealed a smaller box and inside the most gorgeous engagement ring! I couldn’t believe it, I was in shock for a good few minutes before I said yes!! It was made the more special when I learnt that it was his grandmother’s engagement ring and Ken wanted to keep it in the family. So the rest of the holiday was like being on honeymoon, we had the most amazing time.

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?

We will be having hen and stag celebrations, Ken is still deciding what he wants to do with the boys and I have left the hen weekend prep to my little sister, who’s my maid of honour. She is so excited for us and she wants to surprise me with the whole thing.

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?

Ken has been amazing, he has been as excited as me with the whole wedding planning. We are doing most of the planning ourselves, and the whole family has been involved in putting the whole thing together. It has been exciting and I cannot wait until September!

Are you having bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what will they wear?

I have three bridesmaids: my two gorgeous sisters Chantelle and Natasha, and one of my close friends Nadia. We also have my 5year old niece Alexia who will be our flower girl. The girls have already chosen the dresses they are going to wear; we got them in Debenhams at a very good price at the January sales.

Are you having a civil or religious ceremony?

Yes we are getting married at St Luke’s church in Formby. It was Ken’s grandparents church, his parents got married there, both Ken and his brother Dave were christened there and Dave also got married there last year, so we wanted to keep with the Jones’s family tradition which I absolutely love the idea of!

Where will you hold your reception?

Our reception will be held at Mossock Hall Golf Club in Bickerstaffe, Lancashire, an amazing venue and so lucky we found it!

How many guests will you invite to your wedding, and do you have a separate evening guest list?

We have invited close friends and family for the daytime and all our other friends will be joining us at the evening reception.

Will your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

We have gone for a country style/rustic look for our wedding, I think it reflects so much on who we are as a couple. Them main colour is deep plum purple with a hint of orange.
