Professional entertainers Jemma and Steve had been planning their magical wedding at Alnwick Treehouse in Northumberland for months – and the guest list had been finalised some time ago. The couple were definitely not anticipating having to share their day with an additional guest – the ‘Beast from the East’!
Even though the weather was beyond formidable on Wednesday 28th February, the couple managed to have an incredible day. “There was so much camaraderie around people being there – from strangers and farmers giving lifts to guests to people stepping in last minute… you couldn’t make it up,” explains Steve and Jemma’s wedding photographer, Sean Elliott.
“One farmer who gave the father of the groom a lift all the way from Doxford Hall had his wheel fall off en route and ended up getting the Alnwick farming community to help out. The community really rallied round – Steve and Jemma even had the local radio rooting for them!”
Some people were snowed in and some guests from the south were unable to make it, but the wedding still went ahead. “According to the registrar, it was one of the only weddings to actually happen that day in Northumberland,” reveals Sean.
It just goes to show – the Beast from the East and Storm Emma, even when combined, are no match for true love!
Sean Elliott, wedding photographer based in the Biscuit Factory, Newcastle captured their snowy wedding day. Sean’s image of Storm Ophelia in 2017 went viral and was listed by Huffington Post as one of the best weddings images of 2017.
