Kensington Palace have announced today that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have selected a wedding cake maker to make the royal wedding cake – and chosen a flavour too.
Meghan has chosen fellow American Claire Ptak, who comes from California, to make her wedding cake. The Suits actress previously interviewed baker Claire for her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig.
The bride and groom specified that their royal wedding cake must include the ‘bright flavours of spring’, and it has been confirmed by the Palace that it will be a lemon and elderflower flavoured cake. It will be covered with buttercream and adorned with fresh flowers – perfect for a spring wedding. Below is an example of one of the cakes available from Claire’s bakery – we wonder if Harry and Meghan are going for a similar theme?
Claire started her bakery business in Britain by running a market stall in Broadway Market before opening an organic bakery, Violet Cakes, in Hackney in 2010. She released a statement, revealing: “I can’t tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s wedding cake. Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of.”
Kensington Palace have stated: “Prince Harry and Ms Markle are very much looking forward to sharing this cake with their wedding guests.”
