Wedding Reception Drinks
Once you’ve chosen your glasses, you can give some consideration to all your wedding reception drinks. You will need to decide what to serve for:
- Your first reception drink – many couples choose Bucksfizz, which is champagne with orange juice, or a champagne cocktail
- The wine served with your wedding breakfast – it’s best to choose a red and a white, and to have soft drinks for anyone not drinking alcohol
- The champagne or sparkling wine for your toasts – when everyone raises a glass to drink to the bridal party and the happy couple during the customary wedding speeches
Champagne Cocktails and Prosecco
Champagne cocktails are wonderful and it can be fun to create your own signature cocktail for your reception, perhaps in your main wedding colour, even if that’s blue! Add berries or other fruit to the drink and sugar or salt to the rim of each glass for the full effect. You don’t have to serve real champagne for your toasts, it’s fine to serve sparkling wine or Prosecco. You could even have Fizzy Fellows at your wedding with their quirky little Prosecco van!
Wedding Reception Toasts
Traditionally, there are five toasts at a wedding reception, and they run in this order:
1 The best man makes a toast to the the bride
2 The chief bridesmaid toasts the groom
3 The father of the bride (or host of the wedding) makes a toast to the happy couple
4 The groom’s (or other partner’s) father/parents also then toast the happy couple
5 The newlyweds make a toast to their family and all the wedding guests
Whatever style of champagne glasses you choose, whether personalised or plain, they are likely to become very special keepsakes of the happiest day of your life.
