How to have a Stylish Winter Wedding

While winter weddings are traditionally less popular than summer nuptials, they can be every bit as stylish and perhaps even more glamorous; sidestep pastel hues and pink touches, and instead embrace rich colour palettes of burgundy, gold and forest green.

We spoke to the experts at Surrey wedding venue Millbridge Court about the winter wedding trends that we’ll be seeing in 2020 and onwards.

“With roaring fires, snug blankets, low lighting, and warming winter cocktails, all combined with the magical festive spirit, winter is a dreamy time to say I do,” says a spokesperson from Millbridge Court.

Read on for ideas to embrace the colder months and find inspiration to ensure your winter wedding is simply enchanting.

Seasonal Scents and Sprigs

Bring the crisp winter air inside your wedding venue with pine scented foliage adorning the aisle and draped over table-tops, alongside fir trees draped in fairy lights sparkling silently in quiet corners.

Gorgeous ambience, flattering lighting and wonderful scents make for the perfect romantic winter setting. Opt for heavier linens to set the tables to add an extra touch of warmth.

Winter Warmers

Winter weddings make for the perfect excuse for comfort food and drink (as if we needed one!) Sidestep Pimms and instead greet guests with a warming winter cocktail to set the scene; choose well-loved classics such as mulled wine and cranberry mimosas.

Cinnamon, clove spices, warm apple and a touch of bourbon are always trusty choices. When it comes to dining, hot canapes, warm circulated bowl food or carve at the table options are heartening, filling and delicious! As the sun goes down, add hot chocolate, honeycomb stations and cheese boards.

Let it Glow

Use lighting cleverly to create a warm glow, romantic vibe and festive feel. Scatter tea lights across the tables, hang festoon lighting from shelving or drape fir trees in sparkling fairy lights.

When it comes to outdoor space, use tea-lights or lanterns to light up pathways and patio or garden areas.

Bright and Bold Colour Schemes

Winter calls for rich, striking colour schemes; think navy, cranberry, bottle green, or simply darker cream shades for table linen.

Give a stylish nod to the season and contrast the more traditional white winter wedding.

When it comes to florals, bold, deep, earthy colours combined with traditional winter foliage ooze seasonal glamour. A touch of metallic adds an extra sophisticated edge.
