Ellie Goulding & Caspar Jopling
It was a modern-day fairytale in historic York Minster when Ellie Goulding married art dealer Caspar Jopling on 31 August. “The dress itself is made of silk crêpe, hand embroidered with White Roses of York and subtly embellished with white glass beads,” Goulding told Vogue of the bespoke high-necked gown by Natacha Ramsay-Levi for Chloé – the first of four outfits the singer wore during the festivities.
She later changed into a sleek Stella McCartney to greet reception guests at Castle Howard, followed by a dramatic pearl-bodiced dress by Ralph & Russo (below) and a Balmain mini for the evening. Party-goers included Sienna Miller, Princess Eugenie, Tracey Emin, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas
It was a one-two wedding punch for the Game of Thrones actress and her singer-songwriter husband, who first said ‘I do’ (and exchanged candy Ring Pops) in a surprise Vegas ceremony in May then followed it up with a July celebration in the south of France. Turner dazzled in embroidered Louis Vuitton with lace sleeves at the second ceremony, held on the grounds of Château du Martinay, while Jonas wore a Berluti tuxedo. (Oh yeah, and their dog, Porky Basquiat, donned a tux, too.)
Hailey Baldwin & Justin Bieber
OK, so technically these two made it official in a private civil ceremony in 2018 … but it’s the blowout white wedding held at Montage Palmetto Bluff resort in South Carolina that dominated social media and will go down in A-list history. The bride wore three custom dresses on the day: this romantic lace gown by Virgil Abloh for Off-White (with EPIC cathedral-length veil embroidered with the words “Till Death Do Us Part”) …
… this halter-neck by Ralph & Russo …
… and this slinky Vera Wang (below). “The happiest bride I ever did see … and yes duh- sneakers,” the bride’s stylist, Maeve Reilly, captioned the image on Instagram. LOVE. IT.
Idris Elba & Sabrina Dhowre
It was quite a year for actor/director/DJ extraordinaire Idris Elba. At the end of 2018, he was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive”, and just a few months later, he nabbed the cover of British Vogue with the exclusive of his April 2019 wedding to model Sabrina Dhowre. It was love at first sight when the couple met in a Vancouver bar in 2017, Dhowre told Vogue editor Edward Enninful, and she said they chose to hold their celebration in Marrakesh because “my family is from east Africa, Idris’s is from west Africa, so we thought it would be fun to meet somewhere in between.” The groom wore Ozwald Boeteng and the bride wore Vera Wang to exchange vows in front of 200 guests, and Dhowre completed her look with a bouquet of classic white roses. She also had the text of Elba’s arm tattoo, “This train carries no wrong-doers”, incorporated into the train of her gown.
Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger
It had to be his-and-hers Armani for the Guardians of the Galaxy actor and American author/animal-rights advocate, who tied the knot in June at the exclusive San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. (The location was a perfect choice for the bride, whose great-aunt and great-uncle Jackie and John F. Kennedy honeymooned there in 1953.) Schwarzenegger wore her mother Maria Shriver’s tulle veil and her grandmother’s earrings as her “something borrowed”, and changed into another Armani Privé gown for the evening.
Leona Lewis & Dennis Jauch
Non-stop rain couldn’t dampen the wedding-day love between singer Leona Lewis and choreographer Dennis Jauch, who wed in July in Tuscany – though plans for an al fresco wedding breakfast had to be scrapped and the meal moved indoors, according to Hello!. Lewis had three glamorous outfits, one for each part of the day, beginning with this Mira Zwillinger gown for the ceremony.
Next up was an ethereal, embellished blush dress by Inbal Dror, shown here against the backdrop of the couple’s lavish cake table. Sicilian dessert stylist Marco Failla (do yourself a favour and follow his Instagram, stat) created a picture-perfect array of vegan desserts, including a millefeuille adorned with flowers, berries and gold leaf.
Finally, Lewis brought some human glitter-ball vibes to the dance floor in a Yousef Aljasmi crystal jumpsuit perfect for partying the night away.
Marc Jacobs & Char Defrancesco
New York glamour reigned supreme at fashion legend Marc Jacobs’ elegant (and opulent) evening wedding to Char Defrancesco at The Grill and The Pool in Midtown Manhattan. Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid, Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour were among the 700 guests, according to the New York Times, and the grooms wore bespoke attire by Savile Row tailor Huntsman.
Our favourite detail? Both Jacobs and Defrancesco pinned Art Deco diamond and onyx penguins from a matching set into their outfits. “Penguins have only one partner and mate for life,” Jacobs explained in an Instagram post. “A great example of faithfulness and fidelity.”
Rafael Nadal & Mery Perelló
“Home is where the heart is” were truly words to live by for Spanish tennis champion Rafael Nadal and his girlfriend of 14 years, Mery Perelló, who tied the knot in October on his home island of Mallorca. Perelló chose a sophisticated gown by Spanish designer Rosa Clará with long sleeves and intricate French lace and microbeading.
Charlotte Casiraghi & Dimitri Rassam
We’d expect nothing less than elegance fit for a princess from the granddaughter of Grace Kelly, and that’s exactly what Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco delivered when she married film producer Dimitri Rassam over the summer. The couple’s regal nuptials began with a civil ceremony at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco in June, and Casiraghi wore a Saint Laurent minidress.
For the reception that evening, she channeled Old Hollywood in a Chanel gown and a three-strand Cartier necklace from Princess Grace’s jewellery collection.
Part three of the fairytale took place one month later, at the couple’s religious wedding celebration in Provence, where the bride went for a romantic bohemian Giambattista Valli gown.
Jennifer Lawrence & Cooke Maroney
The Oscar winner said ‘I do’ to her art dealer partner, Cooke Maroney, at a Newport, Rhode Island mansion in October. The star-studded list of 150 guests included Sienna Miller and Emma Stone, and Lawrence is reported to have worn a glittering Dior gown. While the couple have not released photos from their wedding, New York-based bridal brand L. Wells did share this photo from what is believed to be Lawrence and Maroney’s engagement party in May.
Lea Michele & Zandy Reich
From the white roses and chic chignon to the structural Monique Lhuillier gown and romantic veil, we’re in love with Lea Michele’s classic bridal style. “It’s important to [Zandy and me] that we look back on our photos, and that they’re classic,” the actress/singer told People. The couple married at Carneros Resort in Northern California.
Heidi Klum & Tom Kaulitz
There are statement sleeves, and then there are statement sleeves. Heidi Klum went big for her August wedding to musician Tom Kaulitz (technically the couple’s second, after a legal wedding in February) in Capri, on board the same yacht where Grace Kelly celebrated her marriage to Prince Rainier III, according to People.
Chance the Rapper & Kirsten Corley
Like the Biebers, the Bennetts (aka, Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley) technically tied the knot in 2018, in a civil ceremony in Chicago. But the main event took place in March 2019 in Newport Beach, California, with Kim and Kanye among the VIP guests. The aisle was strewn with white rose petals at the oceanfront outdoor ceremony, and the bride wore a glamorous gown by Galia Lahav.
Lisa Faulkner & John Torode
The actress and Celebrity MasterChef winner certainly cooked up something special for her October wedding to MasterChef judge John Torode. The autumnal affair was held at gorgeous venue Aynhoe Park in Northamptonshire.
Michelle Hardwick & Kate Brooks
Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick and Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks pulled off the ultimate elopement in Memphis, Tennessee, at Elvis Presley’s Graceland estate. “In over 100 degrees heat, on Tuesday 10th September, I became Mrs Brooks,” Hardwick revealed on Instagram. The iconic venue was second only to the outstanding style: The couple looked effortlessly cool in bridal sunnies and an airy jumpsuit and wrap dress.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson & Lauren Hashian
The longtime couple made it official in relaxed Hawaiian style in August, with an outdoor ceremony overlooking the sea. The bride wore a fit-and-flare lace Mira Zwillinger gown and a long veil perfect for floating on the ocean breeze.
Caroline Wozniacki & David Lee
Labelled “sports’ most romantic couple” by Vogue, Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki wed former NBA champion David Lee under the Tuscan sun in June. Wozniacki was a vision in Oscar de la Renta. Her team of bridesmaids, including tennis royalty Serena Williams, wore soft green floor-length gowns.
Billie Faiers & Greg Shepherd
We were all invited to the couple’s Maldives dream when The Mummy Diaries: The Wedding aired in May. The gorgeous celebration itself took place in March, and the former TOWIE star said ‘yes’ to a fishtail lace dress by Berta.
