13 Things You Might Not Know About Princess Beatrice’s Wedding
1) It Broke Tradition in a MAJOR Way
Princess Beatrice and her new husband Edoardo were the first royal couple to marry in secret in over 200 years! The last secret royal wedding took place 235 years ago, when George IV married his mistress Maria Fitzherbert in her drawing room in Mayfair.
2) It Was a Religious Ceremony
A statement from the palace revealed that the couple became Mr and Mrs in an intimate wedding ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The church is a Grade II listed building within the grounds of Windsor Great Park in Berkshire.

3) It Was a Sentimental Choice of Venue
The Royal Lodge is where the Queen Mother resided following the death of her husband, the former King. She frequently visited the chapel until her death in 2002.
4) Immediate Family Only on the Guest List
We know the royal family is large and can be somewhat complicated! But Beatrice and Edo (as he’s known to her) kept it simple and just invited the Queen, Prince Philip, Beatrice’s parents Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew and her sister Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Edo’s parents, including his step-father, were also thought to be in attendance.
5) It Had the Cutest Best Man in Royal History
No shade, Prince Harry, but Edo’s four year old son Wolfie filled the important role of best man to his father. We want to know what the best man’s speech was like!
6) The Wedding Dress was Vintage
Oh god, the dress! We all adore a royal wedding dress moment and Beatrice knocked it out of the park. She wore a vintage dress, originally worn by the Queen herself at a film premiere in 1961. The dress was altered to add puff sleeves – as shoulders should be covered in a chapel!
It’s been reported that she planned to wear this dress to her original wedding date, which was due to be a grander affair in May. The dress was designed by one of the Queen’s dress designers of choice, Norman Hartnell.

7) The Tiara was Extra Special
Princess Beatrice looked totally radiant, and this was helped by the extremely dazzling wedding tiara she sported! She wore the same tiara that the Queen wore on her own wedding day in 1947. Not even Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle were awarded that honour…
8) It Wasn’t Quite the Day They Planned…
The couple were due to marry in May at a wedding attended by 150 guests, however the coronavirus pandemic caused them to have to cancel their wedding. They reportedly chose to go ahead with a lockdown wedding so the Queen was able to attend ahead of her annual summer visit to Balmoral.

9) The Queen’s Favourite Florist Did the Flowers
Martyn Crossley, the Queen’s go-to florist, provided the wedding bouquet. He posted a picture of the arrangement on his Instagram page and, responding to a comment, revealed that the bouquet was: ‘Very English garden flowers in the Princess’ favourite colours. The flowers included Peonies, Scabious, Eustoma, Stocks, Dahlia. Alchemila, Phlox, Alstrameria and Stocks with Eucalyptus foliage.’

10) The Wedding Outfit Paid a Tribute to Beatrice Herself
If you can’t pay homage to yourself on your wedding day, when can you? Beatrice wore Queen Elizabeth’s dress and Queen Mary’s tiara – Beatrice’s full name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.
11) The Wedding Band Wasn’t All That Traditional
Most royal brides tend to go for a yellow gold wedding band – usually made from Clogau gold. However, Beatrice continued to break tradition with her choices and opted for contemporary white gold.
12) It Was Very Social Media Friendly
Normally, we’re left on edge, eagerly waiting for some official portraits to be realised, but Beatrice and her entourage have spoiled us! We saw the flowers on Instagram, and her sister Eugenie shared a gallery of pictures, complete with the cutest caption: ‘Couldn’t Bea happier (get it?)’.
The touching post went on to read: “What a complete joy and privilege to watch you, my beautiful big sister, walk down the aisle to dear Edo. I am so proud of you and I’m so excited to support you in the next chapter of your life. We are going to have so much fun together.”
13) The Reception Was Pub-Themed?
In accordance with social distancing guidelines, the reception took place outdoors in a marquee (named the ‘Duke of York’, which is also Beatrice’s father’s title), and was attended by just 14 guests.
It’s been reported that the festival style wedding marquee featured a jukebox, plenty of comfy sofas, draught beer, and a dartboard. Guests were also offered bespoke cocktails and speciality catering.
There was also a bouncy castle, presumably to keep the young best man entertained!
After the party ended in the early hours of the morning, guests camped over night in glamping pods which had been set up in the grounds of the York family home in Windsor.
