Bridal Bootcamp

You’re getting married so you want to look your very best on your big day, and for many of us, that means dropping a few pounds, fast. These days, the options are endless, often confusing, and, with all the planning and excitement, it’s all too easy to let a sensible diet plan fall by the wayside.

An interesting new development in the UK, and one that’s increasingly popular is the Bridal Boot Camp. Unheard of until recently, this phenomenon sees women (and men!) take themselves off for a week off full- on fitness, to emerge sleek, energised, and with a whole new mental attitude. Taking place all over the country, Confetti road- tested one of the best, the fabulous Prestige Boot Camp in Herefordshire.

This perfectly organised week saw nineteen women, of all ages, gathering in the early hours of each morning to begin the day not with a latte and newspaper, but with gentle exercise outdoors, led by superbly fit and well-trained ex- army personnel.

The group included brides, guests, mothers of the bride as well as newly weds and new mums who were all there with their own motivation, but an underlying theme of weight loss, confidence and fitness. Did I say gentle? After a light breakfast – a typical example included smoked salmon and scrambled eggs – it’s not called Prestige Boot Camp for nothing and the Chef trained at the Dorchester, no less, a typical day can include anything from boxing, circuit training, sprint races, rugby (yes, really) to more adventurous and challenging activities such as Gorge Walking, Abseiling, Hill walking and high rope activities.

The days fly by in a mix of high and low impact exercise, motivational and nutritional talks, and food. Principles are based on sound knowledge plus up – to- date research that demonstrates that a mix of high and low impact exercise, a blend of aerobic exercise and resistance training and lots of variety to keep exercise interesting, is the best way to long term change.

Eating the right food to keep the metabolism lively is important, and, at Prestige, all participants eat together. For those unused to regular meals, the regime of 3 meals and 2 snacks each day reconnects everyone to a healthy and sensible system, and one that it is easy to recreate at home – you even get a set of healthy recipes like chef’s delicious morning muesli and a filling yet healthy Thai Chicken to take away with you.

By the end of the week, everyone emerges thinner (I lost 8 pounds), with new friends, increased energy, a new outlook on life and the ability to take the lessons learnt home, ensuring not only a gorgeous bridal bod, but also the power and confidence to carry on looking good during the honeymoon and beyond. You can find boot camps nationwide, and many have taster days or classes, all held outdoors so you get the added benefit of fresh air and the opportunity to meet a wide range of people all keen to get fit the boot camp way.

Prestige Boot Camp  is an award-winning boot camp which offers an average weight loss of over half a stone in a week.
