Henrietta wrote a diary on the morning of her big day!
Henrietta knew early on into her relationship with Russell (RT) that she wanted to be Mrs T. She even wrote a diary on the morning of her big day!
I knew from fairly early on in meeting Russell (RT) that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. But I wasn’t expecting it when it finally did happen!
The Date was 8th December 2000. Although we had met over a year earlier, we were just in the middle of buying our first home together. This was the day we were due to complete. RT had spent the day at the house, collecting the keys and arranging the delivery of our first piece of furniture – the sofa. I left work very promptly at 5.30pm and met him in the local pub to start our evening of celebrations (in reality we needed to borrow a glass to sip our champagne from!) then we walked over to the house.
RT asked me shut my eyes as he led me into each room until we made our way into the final room – the kitchen. After waxing lyrical about our lovely new microwave, oven, and dishwasher he told me he had one more gadget to show me. I was to shut my eyes and put my hands out. When he told me to open them, there he was on one knee with the most beautiful diamond I have ever seen and said the words "Henrietta Garnett will you marry me?"
I was speechless (at first) I grabbed hold of him as though my life depended on it and burst out crying. He tells me I kept repeating, "I don’t know what to say" eventually he asked me to "just say yes" which I did, with bells on.
We then moved into the sitting room and sat on our new sofa where he said the four words again and put the ring on me.
And yes it did fit.
