19 Things are hotting up – Henrietta’s Wedding

The last few days have seen a flurry of activity! The invitations have been ordered and printed we just need to pick them up (can’t wait to see them) and I’ve been doing a lot of work on the rehearsal lunch. I’ve really enjoyed doing that. Billy, RT’s Dad, has kindly offered to host the lunch so I’ve sorted out the venue ‐ a very British pub down by the River Thames. It’s beautiful ‐ its claim to fame is that it is where Inspector Morse stops for a pint ‐ not that it will mean anything to the Americans! The plan is to have champagne outside (weather permitting) down by the river and them move into the dining room for lunch. I’m told that in the US, people traditionally make short speeches. I think it will be really exciting ‐ a great build up for the next day. There will be 25 people ‐ the wedding party and a few close friends and it’ll finish by about 3pm. Then RT and I will go our separate ways which will be peculiar. I don’t think you’re even allowed to talk to the groom after that time until you see them on the day ‐ I wonder if text messages count?

We’ve also kept phone lines busy between here and the US on various questions they’ve all got. Travel plans are now being confirmed, so people want to know where is best to fly to etc. It’s actually really nice being involved in people’s plans. It makes the whole thing seem like such an occasion. I’ve just sent an email to all the American men on the subject of morning suit, it’ll be interesting to see the replies I get. I’ve also sent an email to one lady on the subject of hats. As she pointed out, hats aren’t really necessary in Colorado (apart from golfing visors) so it’ll be different for them. I’m going to look into hiring, but not everybody wants to wears hats. Unless it’s something they really want to do, then going bare‐back, as it were, should be fine!

I’ve also had a few ideas about my hen night. Funnily enough, it’s not something that I’ve been too bothered about up until now. I’ve got some great girlfriends who I see quite often, though I suppose in the build up to the wedding this night will be even more special. We’re planning to have our hen / stag nights the weekend before the wedding. RT is actually having a 4‐day stag event up in Scotland. One of his best men has got a boat up there so his party will have a sailing theme ‐ I just hope they’ve got life jackets. My sister is organising mine, but as her baby is due any day and we’ve been a bit slow off the mark, I’m thinking of talking to her about getting another friend to sort out the details. That way all she has to do is show up and enjoy herself.

The wedding rings are nearly sorted ‐ we’ve found both of them now. We’ll be going back next Sunday to finally order them ‐ I can’t wait! We think that we’ll leave them at the jewellers until nearer the time as I don’t trust us not to wear them. I can imagine thinking it was a great idea to “pretend” and wear them one day so at least this way we won’t be tempted.
