I’m back to arranging the wedding without the help of the groom… Jamie’s now working abroad for a couple of months so it’s back to keeping in touch by phone and email. I think he’s a little disappointed to miss some of the preparation first hand, but mostly relieved to be spared all the little details!
Whilst I miss him terribly, at least I’ve got enough to keep me busy! I’ve begun trying on wedding rings; attending church in the parish where I’m getting married (a legal requirement); and I’ve also had my first fitting for the dress! It’s designed by Annette Carey ‐ an energetic, bubbly and talented designer based near Tower Bridge ‐ and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
She’s warned me that I have to hunt down my wedding shoes and bring them to the next appointment in March (in order to decide on the length of the dress) so that’s currently my most urgent task. Shopping for shoes… it’s tough being a bride‐to‐be having to try on every Jimmy Choo or LK Bennett in sight!
Bridesmaids’ dresses
My friend Jo is going to design and make the bridesmaids dresses so I’ve also just begun searching for silks, visiting all the material shops in London. Berwick Street proved a winner though Liberty has stopped selling any material other than its trademark Liberty print. If anyone knows any shops that sell silk at good prices let me know and I’ll share the news with all you other brides out there.
Wedding gift list
John Lewis, however, came out trumps for the wedding gift list. They’ve recently introduced hand‐held zappers so that brides and grooms don’t have to walk around the store with a pen and paper in hand laboriously writing down all the codes of the items they desired. Now you simply register at the wedding department, stroll around the store and zap away!
Invitations
Other tasks involve designing the invites. One of my work colleagues who is also getting married even had a website designed so that guests could see details of the event, location and gift list online!
His stag do…
Meanwhile, Jamie’s mates are more concerned about arranging the stag weekend than any wedding plans and are being amusingly secretive about the affair. They take great pains in keeping any details about the event from me and my other girlfriends and think that we actually have an undercover mission to discover and scupper their plans!
They’ve codenamed the stag ‘Jamie’s Quest for the Ring’ and use terminology from the recent blockbusting film in emails and other correspondence. It appears that he can only get married if he survives the stag!
Suddenly I am a little intrigued to know where they’re going!
