3 A hen night to remember – Johanna’s Wedding Diary

As planning my own wedding is proving rather nerve‐wracking, I’m spending an inordinate amount of time helping others plan their various events. Our friends Ed and Millie are throwing a party for their son Jacob’s first birthday party. Ed would like to have a ‘do‐it‐yourself naming’, but he’s worried the entire proceedings might just be horribly naff. I’ve persuaded him that confetti can help avoid any embarrassment by coming up with some good suggestions, and of course this means I can spend time checking out naming ceremony suggestions when I should be finding a venue for my wedding!

My other little distraction is my best friend Anna’s upcoming wedding. She’s still looking for a dress, which is great, because it means that I can check out dresses on a pretext. ‘It’s not for me, you understand, its for my friend.’ I’m not keen on trying on dresses personally as I’m currently at my winter weight, and standing in the middle of a store with a size 10 dress wrapped round my front and my naked back exposed to the world is not likely to cause me to think of my wedding day as the happiest of my life. I’m also using planning her hen night (or hen weekend as it will be) as a prime work‐avoidance technique. Even picking the geographic location has been a massive three month decision‐making extravaganza, but we finally settled on that hen‐classic, Brighton. I’d kind of settled on a wine‐tasting for the afternoon’s entertainment, but that was before I searched the confetti supplier directory for Hen and Stag Activities in Brighton. Ladies, if you haven’t checked out Milky Moments, I strongly suggest you do now, unless you’re of a weak constitution. It’s the perfect companion to the Naked Butler I’m arranging for later in the evening.

Hopefully by the time my next installment of my diary is due I’ll have actually done some wedding planning, and be able to write about that instead of my friends’ weddings. But I’ve just seen the new confetti readings CDs. They look like the perfect way to pretend I’m hard at work organising things when I’m really just enjoying myself listening to some great readings!

Read Johanna’s diary next month to see how her wedding planning is going and to pick up some handy tips along the way.
