Joanne and Andrew Real Engagement Story

Date of proposal

29/09/07

How old were you both when you got engaged?

I was 24 and he was 34

Who proposed?

He proposed to me

How did your partner (or you) propose?

We were out clubbing in Cardiff and me and my friend decided to wear fancy dress, so I made a Snow White costume for myself to wear. Anyway as we were stood outside the Philharmonic pub, he got down on one knee in front of hundreds of party‐goers and asked me to marry him. Everyone was shouting ‘say yes snow white’ and I did!

Who did you share the news of your engagement with first?

Andrew’s brother and my best friend, who are engaged to each other, were out with us so they were the first ones to know.

Describe your ring.

It’s beautiful!!! It’s silver with a big tanzanite in the middle and then surrounded with cubic zirconia’s.

Did you help choose the ring?

Yes. We got it from Argos!!! We looked at the usual expensive ‘bling’ engagement rings, but decided to go with this one as it’s just as beautiful as an expensive one, and to be honest, who cares how much it costs, it’s the thought behind it. And to be honest, we couldn’t find one that looked as beautiful as the one I’ve got.

Will your partner wear an engagement ring as well?

Yes, he’s a big Liverpool FC fan and wants a ring with their crest on it!

Did you have an engagement party?

Yes, it’s booked for St. David’s day this year.

If so, where was it held?

It will be held at Barry Town FC

How many people were invited?

60 ‐ 80 people have been invited, so we’re hopeful they will all turn up!

Did you have a particular theme for your party?

As it’s on St. David’s day, we were going to use that as a theme, but then decided to just choose a simple colour scheme and match everything to that. We have chosen blue, purple and silver, so we have balloons and table confetti in those colours. We also love the Me to You bears as Andrew bought me one the first week we were together, and so we have managed to get tablecloths and napkins with the Me to You bear on.

When do you plan to marry?

Not for a while!!! Andrew is 35 at the moment and he’s happy as long as we get married before he’s 40, so there’s no rush. Plus I have been married before, so I don’t want to rush things either. We are thinking of 07/07/2012 as it would be 5 years to the day we met, as we met on 07/07/07!!! We were trying to keep that theme going by getting married on 09/09/09, but changed our minds again!!

What are you looking forward to the most about planning a wedding?

Choosing all the little things like favours and table decorations. As I said, I’ve been married before and it was a very small, very simple wedding, so this time I want the traditional big white wedding!! I suppose that’s why we are waiting so long to do it, so we will have enough time to save up for it!!!
