Lisa and David Real Engagement Story

After going out for 2 years and living together for 12 months, David still managed to surprise me with a proposal. Keeping me in suspense, he whisked me away to our favourite hotel in Windsor. We had already spent Valentine weekend there and on this special weekend in June, he took me there to propose, and I really wasn’t expecting it.

David works in Germany but had managed to get home for a few weeks and the weekend of 15th and 16th June was his last weekend before returning to Germany on Monday. He wouldn’t tell me where he was taking me and because the Castle Hotel in Windsor was quite expensive I didn’t think he would take me there. My work colleagues were all convinced he was going to propose, but I wasn’t so sure. On the morning we set off on the mystery tour, David was so calm I knew for certain he wouldn’t propose, but I was wrong.

We arrived in Windsor, much to my delight and did some shopping because it was too early to check in to the hotel. It was the Saturday that England beat Denmark 3-0 in the World Cup and we watched it in a little local pub. After the game we checked in to the hotel and we had only just got to our room when there was a knock on the door. It was the maid with a dozen yellow roses, my favourite. Before I had a chance to thank David, he was passing me a child’s wooden bead necklace with the letters "MARRY MI." I just cried and said yes. It was so magical and it still makes me smile and feel all warm. David had been a little upset because he had not been able to get the ‘E’ to spell it correctly, but being from Yorkshire, he said that was how I pronounced it anyway and it just made it all the more special.

We had a really wonderful weekend and I have since made many women cry telling them the story of the beaded necklace. David and I will get married at Nuneaton Registry Office on January 25th, 2003 in front of all our friends and family. I’m so lucky to get a man like David.
