Lisa and Mark Real Engagement Story

I thought I would also let you know about my engagement story now that I am finally recovering from the shock!I met Mark in a nightclub nearly two years ago on my belated 21st birthday party.Anyway, I was slightly more than tipsy (hic!). When I saw Mark head towards the bar, quick as a flash, I grabbed one of his friends to find out what his name was and before any of my friends could try to save my sanity, I was pulling some really corny chat up line on him. Bless! The poor bloke didn’t know what had hit him!But I must have done something right because we moved in together a couple of months later and I can clearly (and very soppily!) claim that it was love at first sight! On New Year’s Eve 1999, a few friends came to our house for drinks before we all headed onto another party. (I must admit I really wasn’t up for it – I work for a major blue chip company and this was a very busy week for me). So there we were, at this party getting fairly drunk when somebody runs through to the room and tells us that it’s midnight (so much for the big countdown!).

I wish Mark, my beloved, a Happy New Year, then ran outside with his best friend Graham (it’s not what you think!) Graham and I are both Scottish and felt it only appropriate to first-foot the house (an old Scottish tradition which supposedly brings the house luck for the rest of the year). At this point, Mark walks to the front door, grabs my hand and pulls me over to the driveway, discreetly pulling me between a car and a transit van. At this point, all the fireworks are lighting up the sky behind us and then he asks me, “Lisa, will you marry me?”.Talk about shock! I was glad I was wedged between two vehicles otherwise I might have fallen over! The only thing I could come out with was, “Can’t you do it one knee?”.

When he finally managed (firmly wedged between a BMW and a brick wall!) he asks me again. What I didn’t realise was that everyone from the party had also came outside to watch the fireworks and were standing behind me in anticipation of my answer. Anyway, after about three minutes of complete blubbering (thanks to four tequila slammers!), my boyfriend still wedged firmly on the ground, I managed a very croaky and drunken yes. There was a huge amount of cheering, not only from the guests at the party, but also from some revellers in the street who had gathered to see what was going on.

What surprised me the most was that I didn’t have the slightest clue that this was going to happen. I have lived with Mark for nearly two years and thought I had him sussed! I always imagined that we would just sort of agree to do it one night over our dinner or, at the very least, I would find him rummaging through my jewellery box to find out what size my rings were! Even his mum didn’t have the slightest clue and they’d had tea together the day before. He tells me that he had it planned for months, but wanted to wait for the Millennium to mark the occasion. So that’s it – I am engaged to be married! All I can say is confetti.co.uk, we are going to have a beautiful friendship over the next year – it will be nice getting to know you!
