Louise and Nicholas Real Engagement Story

My college friends and I were looking forward to our end of year college art exhibition. A good friend said he was going to bring someone he wanted us to meet.

The first time I saw Nic I felt my heart thudding in my chest. My body automatically took over and went into flirt mode! I did all the tricks – the hair flick, getting him endless drinks and the high squeaky voice with mandatory giggle! As the night went on I had to drag myself away from him and talk to my friends, but to my dismay I missed him leaving the exhibition.

I spent the rest of the weekend trying to decide what I should do. On Monday morning, I walked into college, went straight to my good friend and asked for Nic’s number. He handed it over on a pre-written piece of paper and said he’d been expecting me. Mortified that I’d been so obvious I had second thoughts about calling Nic, but I plucked up the courage and phoned him in a closed off art room. I was so nervous I felt nauseous. Thoughts were racing through my head as we had our conversation and I asked if he would like to go out together on the next Thursday.

Two years later as our anniversary approached, I arranged a few days away for us at Alton Towers as Nic had always wanted to go. On the day of the anniversary of our first date, we went out for the evening. First, we went to a shop we visit every Friday without fail. We then headed for a restaurant. On the way Nic stopped at a beachside car park and asked if I’d like to take a walk with him. At this point I was totally oblivious to what he had planned. As we walked along the beach we stopped to watch the sun setting. Nic pulled something out of his jacket, got down on one knee in the sand, and said ‘I love you so much, will you marry me?’

Again my pulse raced and I felt exactly the same as the first time I spoke to him – wordless and emotional! All I could do was nod my acceptance.

The next day we visited my father in hospital to give him the news. He was a little surprised and so was my mother – throughout my teenage years I had protested that I would never get married, but Nic has changed that and so much more.
