Brett and I met in high school and for me it was love at first sight – we are still together eight years later.
In November 1999, we both flew home to Zimbabwe to see our family and friends and spend a long overdue Christmas with them. We then spent New Year in Mozambique with about 20 friends whom we had not seen in years. We decided to go down a few days before. The weather was wonderfully hot and the sea made everything perfect. Unbeknown to me, at Christmas, Brett had asked my parents if he could have my hand in marriage. You could imagine how difficult it was for my mum to keep a secret.
We had spent a lovely few days on the beach in the hot sun and so on morning of the 31st December, we decided to all take it easy and have a thrash that night. Around 3pm, Brett asked if I would like to go for a walk along the beach, so off we went. We passed a few people on our walk and ended up on a deserted part of the beach – when Brett got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. With a scream of joy I said yes – I will never forget that day.
We walked back to the camp where all our friends were waiting to see if he had been brave enough to pop the question, as you can imagine New Year’s Eve was out of this world. Brett and I are to be married on the 25th November in Zimbabwe on my parent’s farm. I am looking forward to a very happy life with Brett.
