I’ve been going out with my boyfriend, Jim Barnes, for just over 10 years now and he’s helped me through a lot. I lost my father 2 years ago to Leukemia but he knew exactly how I felt as he’d lost his younger brother to the disease 13 years ago.
This year in July, we’re planning to walk across Britain (Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk 200 miles) to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund. I was preparing myself for him to make some sort of proposal then and so thought nothing more on the subject of marriage.
In January, we went to Scotland for some hill walking. The weather was perfect one day and he said we should try to climb Ben Nevis. Never one for shirking a challenge I agreed.
Upon reaching the summit and both collapsing, exhausted he proposed to me on the top of Ben Nevis. Weather was perfect you could see for miles and literally, he made me feel on top of the world.
I never knew he had such a romantic side and after all this time of being together with him, it’s nice to still discover new things.
