Rachel and Chris Real Engagement Story

It all started on one night in front of the laptop in August 2001.

I was playing on my laptop waiting for my friend in America to join me in an online conversation when I saw a pop up for a dating website….. I felt compelled to enter the site, for a giggle really! I entered my details (with added humour) and forgot all about it, until I received an email back of all my matches. I had to have a look didn’t I ?! I skimmed through lots of profiles until I came across one that caught my eye – the only reason being because I had asked for replies no further away than 50 miles of my home town and here was this guy 210 miles away! I read his profile, shivered and told my mum I had just met my husband.

We met the following month on 8 September 2001 in a public place. I got out of the car, saw his face and thanked god for sending me exactly what I asked for. After 15 minutes in his company I knew I wanted the spend the rest of my life with him. We commuted fortnightly until he moved in with me 18 months ago. We have been living blissfully together ever since, we even have our own fur baby, a chocolate lab who thinks he is human and I am so happy I could burst!

So how did we get engaged? I proposed on Leap Year Day.

I booked us in to a really posh hotel under the pretence we were going to the christening of a friend’s baby, we were going to make a night of it and stay over. The only problem I had was that after visiting a local shopping mall my friend and I discovered the day in question was also the day the Rugby Trophy was "coming to town". We are avid fans and knew we had to see it. It didn’t spoil my plans, I just ellaborated a little more……

The night before my friend called to say she needed some help with a few things and off I went on my merry way. Little did Chris know that I had champagne and red love heart helium balloons delivered to my sister’s house with "Will You Marry Me" written on them. I picked them up, delivered them to the hotel we were staying in and came home. I had been shopping and bought a ring, with no idea of the size of his finger and wrote out exactly what I wanted to say to him.

It snowed the morning of the 29th, I made us a drink in the room and opened the curtains (where I had hidden the balloons the night before). I took him a coffee, read out my poem and asked him to read the balloon…. I answered of course I will. The ring fitted, I cried and the rest they say is history…..

We are getting married on the 15th October 2005 at the place where we met four years before. I believe in fate – do you?
