Adele and Kenneth real wedding story

Adele and Kenneth Real Paisley Abbey Wedding Story

When was your wedding?

11th July 2008

How and when did you meet?

We met at a nightclub in Irvine when we were both 16

How old are you both?

29

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?

We went for dinner at Brig ‘O’ Doon on 14/02/2004 and he got down on one knee while we were sitting having a drink at the fireplace after the meal!

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?

Kenny went to Cardiff for a boys weekend. I had a big family 70’s party night in Kilmarnock and a friends night out in Glasgow.

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?

He came to the wedding shows and helped pick and book things we both wanted for the day!

Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?

Yes, I got ideas for the tables and bought things for favours etc.

Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?

I bought both from the shop in Glasgow and online. I got favour sweets, rose petals etc.

Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it

I bought my dress from Signature Brides in Glasgow. It was white satin and platinum embroidery with beading all over. It had a sweet heart bodice with a long train that was pinned up at night

Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?

I had two bridesmaids my Aunt and wee Cousin. They both wore burgundy skirts and ivory bodice with matching burgundy flower detail across the top and a shawl.

Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?

He had his brother, three friends and two nephews. All wore the McGreggor Kilt and Kenny had the Hamilton Kilt made specially.

Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?

Religious.

Where did you hold your ceremony?

Paisley Abbey.

Where did you hold your reception?

Piersland House Hotel, Troon.

Did you have any special wedding transport?

We had burgundy and white Beauford and matching Vintage Limo for the bridesmaids and a burgundy Dalimer for the Grooms side.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?

We had 79 at the meal and around 140 at night!

Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

The theme was burgundy and ivory, table, balloons and flowers etc. all matched.

How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?

We had chair covers with burgundy ties and burgundy around the top table and cake table. All flowers were burgundy and ivory and favours matched too as well as the double bubble balloons had burgundy balloons inside etc.

Did you give your guests favours?

Yes, the men got whiskey with the McGreggor tartan bows and the women an Ivory box with burgundy ribbon and rose with burgundy foil heart chocolates and at night hexagonal boxes with a small rose and full of chocolates.

Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?

The bridesmaids had hand tied Ivory Roses with diamond pin heads in a few of the flowers with twisted grass over the top. Mine was similar but with burgundy roses and grass hanging down with flowers wired to them. We had a long display on the top table and a pedestal stand in the corner of the room. Each table had a round glass bowl on top of a round glass mirror, with grass round the inside and a large burgundy gerbera flower head in it etc. Stems and Gems in Saltcoats did a great job.

What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?

We ate at the hotel. We choose from melon and sorbet or prawn marie rose then chicken broth or cream of carrot soup then lamb with rosemary jus or any kind of salad or chicken and white wine sauce, vegetarians picked anything they wanted and my aunt and I had salmon and tarragon cream. Then it was apple pie with cream or chocolate and strawberry gateaux. Tea or coffee and mints! Gorgeous the Piersland did a fantastic job.

What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?

Sugar and Spice in Troon. White four tier cake with a cloth draped down one side and covered in hand made burgundy sugar roses.

Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?

A band call Zen at night, fantastic!

Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?

Debenhams and Argos.

Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?

We had the honeymoon suite at the hotel then we went to in Cancun, Mexico. We booked with Thomas Cook!

What was your most memorable moment of the day?

I think it was seeing Kenny smiling at me from the top of the Abbey while I was coming in.

Did you experience any “nightmare” moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?

Unfortunately our photographer did not turn up and the Abbey tried to call her but got no answer. We had friends take loads of pictures and did not let it spoil our day. The next day I discovered that she had not up dated her files even though she had written three confirmations of my correct wedding date.

Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?

I would advise not to book our photographer from Glasgow as I would not want her mistake to upset any future Bride and Groom and also to check all dates before the wedding even if you have written confirmation and have met with them recently. Basically do not get stressed and enjoy every moment as it goes by so quickly!
