Liz and Andrews real life wedding

Liz and Andrew’s Real Life Durker Roods Hotel Wedding

When was your wedding?

12th August 2006

How and when did you meet?

We met through a friend in 2002. Andrew plays lead guitar in a band and I had always wanted to learn so I asked for lessons. We soon realised we wanted to be more than friends.

How old are you both?

29

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?

At home, New Year’s Eve 2005. He wanted it to be the first thing he said to me in the new year and got down on one knee with the sound of fireworks around us.

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?

I went to Ladies day at Newcastle races with family and friends. Andrew had a night out locally after playing golf and bowling during the day.

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?

We did everything together as we felt it would it feel more like our day.

Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?

We got a lot of inspiration from confetti.

Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?

We bought decorations and favours from the store.

Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it

My dress was from Debenhams. It’s a strapless A-line in duchess satin with a silk overlay embroidered in gold and crystals. My freshwater pearl and Swarovski crystal jewellery was made by Natural Gem, which I ordered online.

Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?

Andrew’s sister and my two good friends wore strapless dresses in different shades of pink taffeta. They also had pearl and crystal necklaces.

Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?

Andrew’s good friend was his best man and our two sons were usher and pageboy. They wore traditional morning suits with gold waistcoats and ivory rouches, Andrews was gold.

Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?

civil

Where did you hold your ceremony?

Durker Roods Hotel, West Yorkshire.

Where did you hold your reception?

The same Hotel

How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?

50 For the day and around 100 for the evening.

Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

The colour was our theme. Gold, Ivory and a touch of pink

How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?

We had gold and ivory candle centrepieces with a pink rose on each, pink petal confetti and gold and ivory table numbers and placecards.

Did you give your guests favours?

The men were each given morning suit boxes filled with wedding trivia chocolates and a fortune teller fish. For the ladies my Mum made ivory wedding dresses filled with sugared almonds, I made gold wire coathangers for the dresses with a pink swarovsi crystal on each.

Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?

All our flowers were pink and ivory roses with foliage made by a local florist. I had a shower bouquet while my bridesmaids had smaller handtieds. We also had a large table arrangement for the registrars table which we also used on the top table.

What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?

The hotel did all of our catering and the breakfast was a three course meal.

What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?

We chose a simple stacked three tier fruit cake with ivory icing. There were two iced replicas of my bouquet and we chose a circle of love figurine to go on top. It was made by my very talented Auntie.

Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?

The hotel played classical music throughout the wedding breakfast, and we hired a DJ for the evening.

Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?

We asked for contributions towards our wedding photos instead of a gift list so we could upgrade our wedding album.

Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?

We spent our first night in the hotels bridal suite then had a week in Cala D’or Majorca for our Honeymoon. Booked through First Choice.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?

Seeing Andrew as I walked down the aisle.

Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?

After the ceremony one of my bridesmaids whispered in my ear that we had forgotten my veil. I would have spent more time on myself instead of worrying about other people.
