With our April winner announcement we bid farewell to the Love My Dress competition! Our brides have been amazing at sending in their lovely gowns – so much variety, and such touching stories of the shopping, fitting, crying, and buying!
Thanks to all the lovely ladies who sent in the photos of their wedding dresses in April, they were all stunning! Following a vote by our entire office staff, the winner is Bethany Garbett! Read her story below.
I love my dress because…
“I had trailed round dress shops for 4 months with my mum, daughter and 5 bridesmaids, and had finally found one I liked a lot, it was a Maggie Sottero one, beautiful, more than what I was wanting to spend, but the only one I’d really liked.
I had made up my mind I was going to put the deposit down on it, and was finally happy.
Then I went to the post office in Saltaire, I walked past a second hand dress shop and saw this in the window. I went in, asked about it, and the lady said ‘try it on now if you like.’
And I loved it.
And it only cost the deposit of my other dress, so I paid for it there and then!
It’s not the way I expected to find a dress, on my own, and in under 5 minutes, but I love it!”

And furthermore – two honourable mentions:
Anna – “I loved it because of its Victorian/traditional look, when I wore it back in 1993 it seemed the perfect dress. It fitted perfectly when I tried it on and made me feel a million dollars. I went to a few shops, but back then there wasn’t as much choice. I loved the lady who fitted me too, she was so helpful and great at showing me the different designs. 18 years on and 4 children later I still love my dress, maybe I would choose something more simple now, but I still love looking at the images from the day – great memories!”
Kulwinder – “My mum had bought this wedding dress for my sister 22 years ago. My sister did not have the arranged marriage we all believed she would. My mum was heartbroken and kept the dress in the attic for all of these years. On announcing my engagement I took the dress from the attic and had it re-styled without my mum knowing. Thank goodness she loved it and was overjoyed that I had worn it. My mum’s dream did come true in the end as she got to see a daughter get married in the dress she treasured. What better wedding present could I have asked for!
True story!”
