Just want to say Llongyfarchiadau to Medi and Gareth! That means Congratulations for those who don’t speak welsh. Medi and Gareth had their rustic themed wedding at Bangor University where they first met 8 years ago. And I for one think that’s adorable. There’s nothing more magical then sharing your love for one another in front of all your closest friends and family in the place you first fell in love. Don’t take my word for it, have a look for yourselves.
Bride and Groom… Medi and Gareth
Wedding date… Saturday 30th of March, 2013.
We met… at Bangor University as students 8 years before we got married there!
The proposal… Gareth proposed on my 26th birthday, at 11:50 p.m. after a lovely meal at a local restaurant. He got on one knee and I couldn’t believe it, so I didn’t answer for about 5 minutes!
We knew it was ‘the one’… Gareth: After she ordered a pint on our first date! Medi: Missing him when we used to live apart straight after Uni.
Length of engagement… 6 months
How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day? The Real Wedding section helped me realise what could be done realistically, and gave me new ideas. Being different was VERY important to us.
My dress was… by Mori Lee. I wasn’t fussy about my dress and didn’t know what to expect. I tried about 8 different dresses and knew that the Mori Lee was the one. I picked it because I’ve always loved the fish tail style and wanted something different to all the lacy ones that were in fashion.
Our bridesmaids were… Fflur, Dona and Cat (who was 8 months pregnant on the day) They wore suede rose coloured dresses just like my mum’s bridesmaids did back in 1971. And our flower girl was my niece Alys.
Our groomsmen were… Prys and Tom along with 4 Ushers Osian, Rhys, Kyle and Simon and 2 Page boys Ianto (nephew) and Cai (nephew).
Our wedding ceremony… was held at Bangor University, Bangor, North Wales. Our Ceremony in the Powis Hall was absolutely beautiful. We had 130 guests during the day, along with a string quartet playing before, during and after the wedding ceremony. One of my best friends, Elain, sang ‘A Thousand Years’ during the ceremony as our friend Dylan played the guitar. My cousin Dafydd also gave a beautiful reading.

Our wedding photographer was… Richard Outram, a friend and local photographer. He’s a fantastic guy and quite laid back like us.
Our wedding reception was… at the PJ Hall of the University. We were the first couple to be married at the University. It was a very ‘natural’ wedding, lots of daffodils and wild flowers. We had a fantastic chef; he made wild boar pie for starters, lamb fillet pudding for our mains and chocolate cheesecake for dessert. It was amazing! Instead of place names, we printed a funny picture of everyone and put them in their wine glasses. With a Crème egg, Fizz Wizz and Bubbly Chewing gum as favours. And a massive rustic sweet table, we decided to keep them in their original plastic containers, no posh or fancy jars.
Our wedding theme was… Natural, rustic and classy. Lots of spring colours including yellows and white. With lots of wood.
Our Wedding Cake was… A sponge cake with jam, strawberries and cream. Very rustic, made by one of my colleagues in school. Surrounding the cake were jars with photos in them of our closest friends and family’s.
Our first dance was… You and Me by The Wannadies.
Our favourite part of the wedding was… Everything! Dancing to Stonehouse and 60s style music during the party and just having everyone we absolutely love all together under one roof, in a very special setting.
Our wedding was unique and special because… We got married where we first met and where we sat our exams!
Did anything funny or unusual happen at your wedding? My veil got passed around by the end of the night, so loads of pictures of our friends (mostly men!) wearing the veil!
Our honeymoon was to… Playa Mujeres, Cancun, Mexico. We want to go back every anniversary
What is your advice for other brides? Get married in 6 months. You’ll save a lot more money under pressure and if you book everything straight away you’ll have no stress by the end. Make sure that both of you make all of the decisions, we couldn’t have planned it without each other. Keep cool, there is no point in stressing you’ll never please everyone. And never forget the real reason why you’re getting married.
