1. Wedding dress shopping

The mother of the bride traditionally helps her daughter find the perfect wedding dress. It’s every brides dream to see her mum’s face light up with joy when she sees her in her dress for the first time. Tears are a must!

2. The wedding gift list

It’s your mother’s duty to help you create a list of all the family and friends to be included on the main guest list. Providing the name and address of the senior members of the family will mean no one gets left out.

3. Family heirlooms

Your mother is the best person to help you research family heirlooms and traditions you will want to incorporate in your big day.

4. Dress code

Once you’ve picked your wedding dress, it is your mother’s duty to liaise with the groom’s mother to find the perfect outfit for them both. Working together to find their dress will guarantee they will both look amazing without competing or clashing.

6. Dress the bride

It has and will always be a heart warming and touching moment when the mother of the bride helps her daughter in her dress and places the veil on her head. This is one tradition you will want your photographer to capture.

7. Receiving Line

Although the receiving line doesn’t play a major part in many weddings these days, if you are having one, the mother of the bride will stand at the head of the receiving line as it will be her duty as well as yours to greet your guests.

8. Tell you your beautiful

Finally, the most important duty  for your mum will be to tell you you’re the most beautiful bride ever.

1. Contact the bride’s parents

It is traditional for the groom’s parents to contact the bride’s parents as soon as the engagement has been announced. Congratulating each other on the great news is a wonderful start to their relationship.

2. The guest list

Similar to the mother of the bride, it is the groom’s mother’s duty to ask how many guests they are permitted to invite and draw up a guest list of family and friends.

4. Rehearsal dinner

It is tradition for the mother of the groom to plan and host the rehearsal dinner.

5. Heirlooms

If the groom’s family have traditions or heirlooms they wish to incorporate in to the big day, it is his mother’s duty to research them.
