Whether you’re gearing up for your wedding day or want to look your very best for your hen do, here at The Good Spa Guide we know that the devil is in the detail. Luckily for you, our team of experts have put together their top tips for those final finishing touches that will help you look and feel fantastic!
Beautiful Brows
Believe it or not, brows are big business. Each season brings a new brow trend, but you want to make sure your look is classic and stylish for your big day. This season it’s all about bigger brows, so we’ve asked Belinda Hayle – named the official “Brow Queen” by Vogue magazine – to tell us her top tips for fashionable yet timeless brows.
Don’t over-pluck!
“The brow has been growing over the past few seasons, not only in popularity, but in thickness! Over-plucked brows are a definite no-no. A slightly bushier brow will frame the face in a softer way, without looking too harsh in your wedding photos.”
Make it right
“Use a powder instead of pencil, and a slanted brow brush to give subtle definition. Gently work the powder through the brow and fix the hairs in place by spraying a light amount of hairspray onto a brow comb, and work through to the tail. This way, the brow hairs will stay in place all day and look immaculate for those photos.”
Magnificent Manicures
We’d bet our next spa trip that you’ve never paid as much attention to your hands as you have since you got engaged. There’s nothing like a big sparkler to make you super-conscious of your digits. In the lead-up to your big day there are a few things you can do to make sure your hands are looking their very best – after all, all eyes will be on them very soon!
Exfoliate and pamper
A gentle exfoliation twice a week followed by an intensive overnight moisturising treatment can help your skin stay supple, smooth and even encourage good circulation. You can buy a gentle hand exfoliant or make your own.
Try combining your hand cream or hand wash with some fine sugar or salt granules, or porridge oats if you have sensitive skin. Gently rub the mixture over both sides of each hand, then rinse. Pat your hands dry, and then smooth more moisturiser all over your hands, paying special attention to your cuticles. Pop on some soft cotton gloves and hop into bed – your hands will be soft and supple by morning!
Treat yourself
There’s nothing like a professional manicure in preparation for your nuptials. Paraffin manicures do wonders for dry or rough skin, so if the Big Day is approaching and you need a quick fix, book in for a luxury manicure that includes a softening mask of warm wax.
If you’re looking to adorn your nails with something other than a classic French manicure, then you could try Ciaté’s Caviar manicure. This new technique uses tiny coloured pearls set into varnish to give a three-dimensional effect. Lots of brides are having this nail adornment only on their ring finger – a real statement without going over-the-top.
Luscious Lashes
When you peek out at your best beloved from behind you veil, you want your eyes to be stop-them-dead spectacular, right? Just like the hair on your head, your eyelashes need a little bit of TLC. Treat them to a bedtime nourish with a cotton bud and some olive oil. Dip the bud into the oil then hold up to your eye and gently “butterfly kiss” the tip with your eyelashes (be careful not to poke yourself in the eye!). Leave overnight, and repeat every evening for gently nourished lashes.
Fake it!
Everyone worries about mascara disasters at those emotional moments. Fret not! There are ways to make sure your eyes look perfect all day long. When it comes to the big day, professionally applied semi-permanent eyelash extensions, such as Lash Perfect, are a great alternative to stick-on false lashes, or body-boosting mascara. Your therapist will carefully blend the individual extensions with your own lashes, leaving them looking longer, fuller and darker, without a trace of mascara. Semi-permanent extensions will last up to a month, so you can continue to bat those gorgeous lashes during your honeymoon, too!
