While the summer bridal hairstyle lends itself to soft waves styled half up-half down or in flirty loose buns, the winter allows the style to be more bold and dramatic. Although vintage styles are very popular all year round, they are especially perfect for winter brides who can make a bit more of a statement with their accessories. While delicate pins of diamantes and pearls were preferred in the summer, bolder accessories can be used such as jewels, feathers and even fabrics to create a lovely statement headpiece.

Up-dos are perfect for the winter! They keep your locks out the way from the cold winds and neatly tucked into a gorgeous style that won’t budge throughout the day. There are so many options with up-dos, whether it’s a classic ballerina bun, 40’s victory roll or even a high fashioned teased beehive – your hair can be transformed into a real statement of elegance. If you’d like something a little more understated there are plenty of options here too, with simple chignons and pretty but elegant side styles which keep your hair up and neat but make it look soft and romantic at the same time.

If there is a particular style you like but think it’s perhaps too severe for your big day, you can always ask your stylist to “soften” a particular style so that it has a bit more movement to it and feels a little more comfortable. With plaits being a very popular theme for summer styles they can be carried through to the winter bride too with a gorgeous plaited halo style – perfect for an angelic bride!

The winter is all about rich colours and sparkle so don’t be afraid to experiment with fascinators, tiaras and statement pieces, they will compliment your updo beautifully and are perfectly suited to the festive period!
