The trend-watchers start making their predictions as soon as the first bridal collections make an appearance – and judging by what’s on offer for 2013, there is quite a lot to look forward to! Here are some of the fashion highlights the lucky future brides can choose from – all absolutely stunning!
Big skirts
Yes, big skirts have always been a favourite among brides, and always available in bridal collections. But for 2013, it isn’t just plain big skirts, oh no! The skirts have become works of art on their own – they are no longer just layers and layers of straight tulle or satin, but stunning arrangements full of movement, clever drapings, gorgeous lace overlays, and amazing shapes.

Colours
While blush and pink seemed to be top colour choices for 2012 brides, 2013 is already showing off all kinds of hues, including blue, gold, and a lot of patterns too! Which colour will emerge to be the favourite of next year’s brides? Only time will tell – but we predict light blue, especially championed by Alfred Angelo, most beloved for his amazing fairytale gowns.

Embellishments
The elegantly understated designs featuring a jewelled belt or neckline were present as always on 2013 bridal runways, but there was a notable increase in richly embellished and embroidered fabrics – flowers, beads, pearls in swirly and feminine patterns made a huge impact for 2013.

1920s/1930s
The influence of the Great Gatsby film, due to be released in early 2013, is already being talked about as the dominant trend for 2013. Only time will tell! The influence of the Jazz Age and art deco style can be clearly seen in many designs – dropped waists, tiny sleeves and sleek lines reminiscent of the fashions of that era.

Sleeves
Some say it’s still the “Kate effect”, and some say that designers are simply making a collective departure from the sleeveless bodice that used to dominate bridal design – and let’s be honest, the strapless look doesn’t actually suit every bride out there! For 2013 it’s sleeves of all kinds – long, short, lacy, cap, draped, and everything in between.

Lace
Gorgeous lace alone can make any dress look WOW, no matter what style or length! Shown on the 2013 catwalks with abundance, and looking more luxurious than ever, it’s both traditional and ultra-feminine – perfect for every bride, we say!

Backs
Take away the strapless design, and you suddenly have not just the sleeves to get creative with, but the back as well! After all, it’s the bride’s back that’s on display during the ceremony! Keyhole styles, low cut, or covered up with lace – we predict even more of this in 2013.
