Q: What are the most flattering wedding dress styles for my shape?
I was wondering what styles of wedding dress would be best for my body type. I have a boyish figure with a small bust and slim hips. I don’t want to wear a ‘meringue’ or ballgown style of dress. My style is quite classic and I don’t want anything too over the top, just a dress that will really flatter my shape. Please help.
A: Check out my advice on Choosing Your Wedding Dress
One of the most flattering dress styles for your shape is an A-line gown with a wide neck, off the shoulder or strapless top. You can create the illusion of an hourglass figure with even the most ‘boyish shape’ (and I know this from personal experience too) by wearing a gown that gives the illusion of wider lines above and below the waist.
Show off your tiny waist with either a corseted bodice or a slinky, sheer fabric dress in an elegant 1930s style. Decorative lace, beading or ruffles are other ways of enhancing a small bust – ruffles in particular will give the illusion of volume and can look very pretty on a simple, classic gown.
