Making any plans over the past year was harder than ever and so organising a wedding was no exception. With travel restrictions and social distancing guidelines constantly changing, the 2019-20 wedding season was extra chaotic. For many, this meant either postponing their big day by a year or two or going ahead with a ceremony smaller than planned.
Luckily, normality seems to have returned and more and more weddings have taken place this year. But, due to a backlog from the past few years, the wedding peak is expected to last a little longer than usual this year, hence more weddings are happening this winter.

Next looked into the most common colours for bridesmaids dresses combining both Google search data and Instagram hashtag data. Next looked at close to 50 colour variations of winter colour palette on both Google and Instagram analysing the number of posts for each #colourbridesmaidsdresses and #colourbridesmaids on Instagram and the number of searches on Google. These were then combined to create an index that reveals the most common colours for the winter season.
Top most popular winter bridesmaids dress colours
Purple is the most popular overall with 3,031 hashtags on Instagram and 18,000 annual Google searches. This cool colour is vastly popular for bridesmaids but as a colour group, no matter the type of shade; from pale colours like Lila or strong tones like violet this colour is on the top of the list.
Black takes second place overall in the ranking boasting 567 hashtags on Instagram and 57,600 annual Google searches. The neutral and feminine colour is both timeless and elegant and so it’s no wonder it tops the list as one of the most popular for this winter season.

With the Christmas season around the corner, it is not surprising that red takes the third spot with 18,000 annual searches between 2020-22 and 2,018 Instagram. This versatile colour provides a vibrant vibe to any wedding and bridal party.
White with 1,784 hashtags and 12,000 annual searches, and Emerald with 8,400 annual searches and 306 Instagram hashtags also made their way into the top five. Both colours are once again nice and festive for the season but still in keeping with a smart wedding vibe.
Top most Instagrammed bridal colours for winter bridesmaid dresses
Whether you like it or not, Instagram has a big influence when it comes to inspiration for your big day.
Purple takes the top spot once again with a total of 3,031 hashtags, In the second spot is red with 2,018 hashtags.

More unique colours like the bright green emerald just made it into the top five most Instagrammed with just 306 hashtags. Bolder choices like white (1,7849 hashtags) also make it into the top 5 showing that brides are allowing their bridesmaids time to shine on their special day too. Black bridesmaid dresses also made it in the top five with 567 hashtags.
Top 10 most searched for bridesmaid dress colours online
When it comes to online searches, blue tones schemes are also quite popular with different shades of blue bridesmaids dresses, however, black bridesmaid dresses take the first position with 57,600 global searches over the last 12 months. Red colour dresses take the second spot with 19,600 global searches annually.
Once again purple colour takes the podium- Purple bridesmaid dress had 18,000 global searches over the last 12 months.
