It doesn’t really matter if you live in a flat. Croquet sums up the British summer like Pimms and Wimbledon. We love this Budleigh set from The Conran Shop at £259. Definitely an heirloom in the making and perfect if you’re having a marquee.
You’ll also want plenty of champagne, so why not add some to your list? We’ve got a whole department dedicated to fizz and it’s amazingly popular, particularly to put down for your next big celebration (although you may be off the sauce by then). Just in time for festival season, Selfridges have launched an amazing range of tents byFieldcandy, sporting really gorgeous prints. There’s a saucy ‘Get a room’ edition, a Union Jack and our favourite, this classic beach scene. Prices start at £395 so you may need a rich uncle or friends to club together.
Or, let someone else do the hard work. Glamping is all the rage at the moment, particularly in luxury wigwams. We’ve listed dozens this summer, and it makes a great gift that guests love to buy. Overnight stays around the UK start at just £70 with Red Letter Days.
Also from our travel department, a romantic sunset sail with champagne under the stars. Virgin has a great two-for-one offer at the moment at just £85 for an evening cruise with tuition out of Brighton.
And so to the podium for the final three…
Bronze goes to hammocks this summer. We’ve added all shapes and sizes for couples, but our current fave, and a bit of a bargain, is the Tayrona from Anthropologie. Available in three colours it’s just £68.
The silver medal goes to gnomes! Don’t ask us why but they’re making a real comeback, and we just love this little fella from Heal’s at £12. You could ask for a whole family.
And in top place, we’ve even got one in the office to huddle up in on cold summers days, it’s this fabulous deckchair made for two! What sums up married life in the summer than this? Available from Present Finder this one comes in at £145, but we think it’s worth every penny!
