3 Dos For Your DIY Wedding
Delegate
This is most definitely the most important thing to do when planning your DIY wedding. You will no doubt put lots of pressure on yourself to do everything perfectly, but on most occasions it’s impossible to do everything yourself.
Delegation is key to making it as stress-free as possible. From making things together with your family, throwing favour making parties with your friends or having a DIY wedding weekend, or two, to get everyone involved in the wedding planning process. You get help and you get to spend time with your loved ones too!
Don’t forget that you will have to delegate tasks on the actual day too – so the wedding party need to step up and support you on the big day; it’s not all about just planning the hen and stag parties!
Source Second Hand
Sourcing materials and items second hand not only saves you time and money, but it’s more sustainable too! There are many things you can buy and then customise or amend to suit your personal style.
Join wedding groups where some people sell things on from their wedding, or Facebook marketplace is a great way to source unwanted items for the big day. As they say one (wo)man’s trash is another (wo)man’s treasure!

Use your contacts and online sources to get as much expert advice as you can. This is obviously where WEDucate can help too! We like to call it ‘The Netflix of Wedding Planning’.

3 Don’ts For Your DIY Wedding
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Your friends and family will want you to have a day to remember so don’t be afraid to ask for help from them as there are definitely some things along the way that they could do. It will make your planning more efficient and will let them get involved and feel a sense of achievement on the day too.
Don’t Lose Track of Your Spending
It’s easy to do and many have done it. When you’re planning your DIY wedding you may presume that everything you’re doing is cheaper, therefore it’s fine and will be in budget.
Make sure you track you spend and write down all your costs, especially if you are working to a tight budget. This is even more important when planning a DIY wedding as there will be lots of little cost for each area, instead of just the one payment to a supplier.
Use a budgeting tool, app or spreadsheet to help and don’t forget to add things to it!
Don’t Leave Things Until the Last Minute
As with most things in life, leaving things to the last minute can cause unnecessary stress and may mean that you can’t have the things the way you wanted for your wedding day.
Don’t leave things until the last minute, if possible. Be prepared, create timeframes and spreadsheets, give yourself plenty of time to plan, source and create the wedding you dreamed of. This is for all areas that you are doing yourself – from makeup to creating playlists.
The last thing you want is to create extra stress for yourself. You want to enjoy your wedding day and see the fruits of your labour unfold feeling fully relaxed and ready to party!
Planning a DIY wedding can let you release your inner creativity, think outside the box and have fun during the process, and the satisfaction you will get on your wedding day will be priceless. Seeing all your hard work and creativity come to life will be the ultimate gift to yourself.
Every single aspect of the big day will reflect the two of you as a couple. All you will have to do it sit back, relax and enjoy the day you have created for yourself.
