What the Sex and the City Wedding Really Cost

The Sex and the City reboot has got us feeling nostalgic so we look back at Carrie and Big’s wedding cost as well as other movie weddings and TV show wedding ceremonies to see how much they would have actually cost in real life…

Ever wondered how much iconic movie weddings would cost in real life? Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big would splash out the most cash, but it would take Monica and Chandler from Friends the longest time to pay off their big day.

New research by F. Hinds calculates how much elements of iconic TV and weddings in film would cost in the real life, as well as how much time it would take the happy couple to pay off the full amount, based on their salary and realistic monthly contributions to a wedding fund.

When it comes to movie weddings, the Sex and the City movie tops the list in terms of cost. Unsurprisingly, Sex and the City financier John James Preston (better known as Mr. Big) and successful author and fashion icon Carrie Bradshaw would have the largest wedding day bill overall. Their wedding day would cost a whopping $181,365 (£130,900) in the real world, a massive amount considering Big ended up leaving Carrie at the altar the first time around.

However, their wedding would take the longest time to get paid off based on a realistic wedding fund monthly contribution of $2,498 (£1,800) for two years.

The research shows Brooklyn 99’s Jake and Amy would have the least expensive wedding overall, with the total cost coming out at a mere $876 (£632.25). This is due to them having to get married at the police precinct after a criminal planted a bomb in their venue. They also managed to get a full refund through wedding insurance, which brings the total cost down by a hefty amount.
