Jayne Macdonald and Keith Moyes were married on 8th July 2017 at the Village Hotel Edinburgh in a stylish silver and sunflower themed Scottish handfasting wedding.

The wedding ceremony took place in the Village Hotel Edinburgh with around 50 guests, the ceremony conducted by humanist, Les Gray. The room was decorated beautifully with white chair covers with silver ties, decorative trees with fairy lights, a table set up for signing the register and a remembrance table with photos of family members who are no longer with us.

Scottish Handfasting Wedding

The ceremony itself was very personal, yet light-hearted with tears of every emotion from the bride, groom and guests. Throughout the ceremony the bride and groom carried out some rituals, such as the Scottish traditions of hand fasting, ring warming and drinking from a Quaich.

There were readings from both bridesmaids and a close friend and the rings were given to the bride and groom by the best man. After the ceremony drinks were served in the bar area and a magician entertained the guests whilst the bride and groom had their photos taken.

Wedding Reception

The wedding reception was also held at the Village Hotel Edinburgh. After a delicious meal and very entertaining speeches from the father of the bride, groom and best man the evening celebrations got underway. Again, the room was decorated perfectly with the covered chairs and centrepieces spread evenly across the space, the DJ set up on stage, the wedding cake to the side, sweetie cart in the spacious bar area, and the homemade photo-booth set up at the back of the room by hotel staff.

First Dance

The first dance was to ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran and the bride and groom danced together before being joined by the wedding party and their partners. The final song of the night was ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers, a song which reminded the newlyweds of when they met at Stereo nightclub back in 2008.

The bridesmaids were Becca Wilson, the bride’s best friend for over 20 years and Jenna Wayth a very close family friend of the couple. Both bridesmaids helped with planning and preparation in the lead up to the wedding, including making invitations, buying and creating props for the home-made photo-booth and planning two incredible hen parties!

Groomsmen

The best man was Simon Griffiths, the groom’s best friend since high school. Simon planned a great stag do for the groom and also helped in the lead up to the wedding and managed to keep the groom (almost) calm on the morning of the wedding. Simon gave an incredible speech supported by a PowerPoint during the wedding breakfast, this will be talked about for years to come! The usher was Paul Moyes, the groom’s brother who carried out his duties exceptionally.

Wedding Dress

The bridal gown, an ivory strapless duchess satin gown by Mori Lee was bought from Emma Roy in their sample sale. The bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS and the groom/groomsmen’s outfits were hired from The Kilt Hire Co.

Hair and Make Up

The bride’s hair was by Derek at ID hair with makeup by Helen McNeill MUA. The desired effect was achieved with hair curled and pinned to the side and simple, yet elegant, make up which felt natural but beautiful.

Wedding Entertainment

The magician, Andrew McKinlay Magician and Mystery Artist was phenomenal, and the guests were awe-struck. The bride’s parents arranged for a caricature artist to draw the guests during the evening reception which was enjoyed by many of the guests – some now even have their drawings framed on their walls at home!

Special Moments

The ceremony conducted by the humanist was very personal and touching. The aspects of humour made it very light-hearted and the readings prepared by the bridesmaids were very special. There were lots of different things for guests to do at the reception whilst taking a break from dancing – homemade photo-booth, caricature artist, sweet trolley and magician.

There was a remembrance table with photos of family who are no longer with us, at the beginning of the ceremony the bride and groom lit candles which were left burning to show that they were thought of and missed on the special day.

Wedding Breakfast and Cake

The food provided by the Village Hotel was exceptional. Prior to the wedding there was a menu tasting with the hotel chef who would be preparing the food on the day. This was a very personal and lovely experience to have which increased the excitement for the wedding day.

The wedding cake was made by Emma at ‘Oh My Sweet Cakes’, a family friend. There were consultations about flavours and designs beforehand and the finished cake was a surprise on the day.

Venue Decor and Flowers

The venue was decorated beautifully by the hotel and the linen providers. The venue had taken into account requests made and ensured everything was set up perfectly. The centrepieces and top table flowers were arranged perfectly.

Wedding Favours

Instead of favours there were sweets and pick’n’mix bags provided for all guests to help themselves to from the sweet trolley which was planned and provided by the bride’s parents.
