The grandeur of the opulent Baroque style architecture and the chic styling of the reception with roses and tealight candles hanging from the ceiling make Annie-Lou and Martin’s such an elegant wedding in Malta by Emma-Jane Photography.
Villa Bologna, Malta
Annie-Lou Watson and Martin Birmingham had an elegant late afternoon ceremony, just before sunset for cooler temperatures and a soft golden light to their wedding celebrations. The outdoor ceremony was held in the exquisite gardens at the Villa Bologna in Malta on 17th March 2017. Villa Bologna is a grand mid-18th century stately home with some of the largest historic gardens in Malta. The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous reception and the cutest sweetie buffet complete with pretty floral bunting, all under the shade of a tree.
Baroque Style Wedding
Villa Bologna, dating from 1745, features some of the most stunning gardens on the island, with exotic plants and trees, including the Jacaranda and many citrus trees. There is a delightful Nymphaeum (a shrine dedicated to a nymph), an imposing Baroque gateway and a sunken pond with a stone pelican, which serves as a fountain. The visually alluring Dolphin Pond is seen here with its tall columns and four arches meeting on the corners of a rectangle. It has a stone dolphin carved in the Baroque style onto each of the four arches and a statue of a boy in the centre embracing a swan from whose beak springs a fountain of water.
