Buying Wedding Gifts for the Groomsmen

There may be a few people you want to thank after your wedding for all the hard work they have put in to make your day as special as it can be. So today we’re looking at buying wedding gifts for the groomsmen.

Traditionally, the groom buys gifts for the male wedding party, including his best man, the groomsmen, ushers, and perhaps even the ring bearer. Many grooms also choose to buy gifts for their father, and the father of the bride, too—and the officiant/clergy who presides over the ceremony is sometimes given a tip.

Choosing gifts can be difficult, especially when you’re probably going to be buying things for around a half dozen people. Make sure you take into account how much these gifts might cost—maybe you’ll want to put aside a little of your wedding budget—for with such a huge range of products out there, you can look both online and off for some stunning gifts. You’ll probably want something meaningful, something that will properly say ‘thank you’ for the help you’ve been given.

Gift Ideas

Traditional gifts for the male wedding party include many stunning accessories: e.g. watches, pocket knives, money clips, and cufflinks. They’re sophisticated and come in many styles, so they’re suitable for all tastes. And they can be used over and over again.

A drinking flask is a classic gift choice too, being practical and stylish. However some people may see these as too common, so other drinking gifts include glassware and tankards. You may also consider novelty food sets such as BBQ sets and cigar humidifiers.

Tools and technology are always popular choices, from tape measures and lighters to torches or clever projectors. They’re a guaranteed hit, because, again, they’re very likely to be needed and used by the gift receiver.

But gifts don’t necessarily have to be a tangible item to be kept for years and years. You could buy somebody a short break away, or a membership with a club, or tickets to watch a favourite team for a favourite sport.

Personalisation

Remember that you don’t have to buy everyone the same thing; to make gifts more personal and meaningful, think carefully about what your individual friends/family members like—and, most importantly, what they’ll use. Try to avoid buying a gift that will only sit on a shelf gathering dust.

Also, consider a physical personalisation such as a hand-written card for when you present your gift to your best man, usher, etc. Hand-written cards/notes are a wonderful way of expressing your gratitude for all the help your wedding party has given you, especially if you are a person who is uncomfortable with speaking such things aloud. Similarly, you could go the extra mile and include an engraving on the gift item itself; this will cost a little bit more, but it’s often worth it.

Think about when you’d like to present your gifts too—will it be before the wedding, after the wedding, during the rehearsal dinner, during the stag night? Keep in mind that if you want a more intimate, meaningful presentation of gifts, you should aim to do it while everyone’s sober.
