DIY Friday: One Box, Five Pretty Ways

DIY Article Colourful Ribbons

Simple and sweet! In this DIY article we’ll show you how, with even minimum materials, you can still get that creative look if you use just a little bit of imagination! So–here we demonstrate how with only one box and a bit of ribbon you can make some stunning ribbon boxes that are perfect for wedding favours or table decoration. The possibilities are endless!

 

Box 1 – Something Blue
DIY Article Blue Ribbon Box

What you’ll need:

DIY Article Blue Ribbon Supplies
white favour box, satin ribbon (two shades of blue and white), scissors and a glue gun.

How to achieve the look:

Step 1: cross wrap your darkest shade of blue ribbon, finishing it off at the bottom of the box for a seamless top finish.

Step 2: loop your darkest shade of ribbon two or three times. Make sure the length of your formation is in proportion to your favor box.

Step 3: repeat step 2 on your lighter shade of blue ribbon.

Step 4: overlap your two looped formations, darkest on bottom, and tie together with white ribbon. Snip off any access white ribbon so that only a wrap remains.

Steps 5 & 6:
tie a strip of white ribbon into a double bow, keeping size in proportion to your blue ribbons and your favour box.

Step 7: glue your layered blue ribbons vertically to the middle of your box.

Step 8: glue your white double bow horizontally to the middle point of your blue ribbons.

Look 2- Lovely Rosettes

What you’ll need:

DIY Article Rosette Supplies
white favour box
, satin ribbon (two shades of peach ), scissors and a glue gun.

How to achieve the look:

Step 1:
cross your two shades of ribbon at the top left corner of your box,  finishing the wrap off on the bottom of the box for a seamless top finish.

Step 2: cut a strip of your darker ribbon, approximately 20 inches in length, and twist it.

Step 3: tie the ends to hold the twist.

Steps 4 – 6: twist the ribbon around itself to create a rosette and glue at the finish point.

Step 7 (not shown): repeat steps 2 – 6 on your lighter shade of ribbon, using a shorter length for a smaller finish, approximately half of what was used for the larger rosette.

Step 8: glue rosettes onto your box, larger one over the point where your two wraps join and the smaller one just below that point, slightly to the right.

Box 3- Satin Button Charm

What you’ll need:

white favour box, satin ribbon (two shades of purple and white), scissors and a glue gun.

How to achieve the look:

Step 1: wrap all three shades of ribbon around your box vertically, from darkest to lightest, overlapping each slightly. Finish wrap up on the bottom of the box for a seamless finish on top.

Step 2: cut your darkest ribbon into a strip that is approximately 70 inches long and roll into a button shape. This will be your largest button.

Step 3 & 4 (not shown): repeat step 2 on your other two ribbons. Make your lighter shade of purple button smaller than your darkest and make your white the smallest.

Step 5: glue all three satin buttons to your box, positioning as shown in the image above.

Look 4- Pretty in Ombre Pink

What you’ll need:

white favour box, satin ribbon (three shades of pink), scissors and a glue gun.

How to achieve the look:

Step 1: wrap your box vertically, down the middle, with your lightest shade of pink ribbon. Finish wrap up on the bottom of the box for a seamless finish on top.

Step 2: loop your darkest ribbon twice. Keep the size in proportion to your box.

Step 3: form your ‘in between’ shade of ribbon into a simple bow. Keep size in proportion to your looped ribbon and your box.

Step 4: layer your two ribbon formations, dark loop on bottom, lighter bow on top, and tie together with your lightest shade of pink ribbon.

Step 5: glue the bow to your box, about a quarter of the way down from the top.

Look 5- Satin in Bloom

What you’ll need:

Step 1: overlay your white ribbon onto your wider yellow ribbon and wrap both vertically around your box, about a quarter in from the left side. Finish wrap up on the bottom of the box for a seamless finish on top.

Step 2: cut approximately 4 strips of your wide yellow ribbon, about 8 inches in length, and then use your crinkle cut scissors to cut each strip into two.

Step 3: finish off the strips you just cut with crinkle cut ends.

Step 4: bend your crinkle cut ribbons over and arrange them into a bouquet like shape. Make sure to alternate the direction the crinkle cuts face.

Step 5: tie off your bouquet with the white ribbon, just slightly above the middle point.

Step 6: glue your bouquet to your box at an angle, pointing slightly downward to the bottom left corner of your box.
