11) The Kentish Barn at Preston Court

Preston Court, a listed Georgian manor house, includes extensive private gardens with a French iron bridge, ornamental lakes fed by natural springs, a church, a medieval island (“Juliana’s Island”) and folly, a Victorian carousel, and, of course, a magnificent 17th-century Kentish barn. Built with a traditional wooden frame, the Kent Barn is a very versatile wedding reception space with fairground-style organs, a dance floor, raised stage, and doors that can be thrown wide open. Next to the Kent Barn and the granary building you’ll also find the Long Barn complete with a licensed bar, wood burning stove, and sofas for relaxation that’s ideal as a small space for guests who need to get away from the energy of the reception. The Preston Court area includes a lovely legend too: it says that, in Saxon times, St Mildred allowed her deer to run wild across the countryside, and she built a church wherever they found drinking water—including the Preston church called St Mildred’s Church.
