Wedding readings from movies are some of the most popular modern wedding readings, and it’s no wonder!
11 Romantic Wedding Readings From Movies
Use these movie quotes to add some extra romance to your wedding readings and create an unforgettable wedding speech.
1) The Ultimate Disney Wedding Speech – OhMyDisney.com
This is one of our favourite wedding reading ideas—an ultimate speech for the father-of-the-groom from Oh My Disney, made using Disney and Pixar references:
“Lovely Day, isn’t it? He has a good soul. And he’s handsome, too! We’ll always be the best of friends. If you start crying, I’m gonna cry, and I’ll never get through this. I’d rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without you. Some people care too much, I think it’s called love. Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts. Hakuna Matata…it means no worries for the rest of your days. Run the hidden pine trails of the forest, taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth, roll in all the riches all around you..paint with all the colours of the wind. Love is a song that never ends.
You have a very important thing to do today. She is the one. The girl we have been waiting for. You and I better have a little heart-to-heart…sit down, son. Always let your conscience be your guide. Givin’ up is for rookies. You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. You are my son…no matter how big you get, you’ll always be my son. Anytime you need me, just whistle.”
Did you catch all the references? In order they were: Up, Pocahontas, The Fox and the Hound, Monsters Inc, Pocahontas, Winnie the Pooh, Aladdin, the Lion King, Pocahontas, Bambi, Winnie the Pooh, Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, Hercules, Pooh’s Grand Adventure, Goofy Movie, and Pinocchio.
2) The Fault In Our Stars
We love how poignant this quote is—that in spite of everything, even the inevitable world’s end, he loves her as a fact:
“I am in love with you. And I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed, and that one day all of our labours will be returned to dust. And I know that the sun will swallow the only Earth we will ever have. And I am in love with you.”
3) The Notebook
The Notebook remains one of the most popular romantic movies because of raw and real qoutes like this:
“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me… everyday.”
4) Meet Joe Black
Meet Joe Black is a beautiful movie about love and life, and if you haven’t seen it we highly recommend it if only for fantastic quotes like this:
“Love is passion, obsession, someone you can’t live without. I say, fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy and who will love you the same way back. How do you find him? Well, you forget your head, and you listen to your heart…Cause the truth is, honey, there’s no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven’t lived a life at all. But you have to try, cause if you haven’t tried, you haven’t lived.”
5) Sleepless In Seattle
Sleepless in Seattle is another go-to romantic movie, and few quotes are as magical as this one, which is full of quotable lines:
“It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together … and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home … only to no home I’d ever known … I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like … magic.”
6) When Harry Met Sally
This speech from When Harry Met Sally is a lovely example of how your own wedding speech can be romantic, funny, and endearing by simply adding some of your partner’s little quirks. That makes this one of our most favourite wedding readings from movies!:
“I love that you get cold when it’s seventy-one degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour-and-a-half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
7) Twilight
Bella and Edward’s wedding in Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Part One) was a stunning spectacle and years in the making. It also left us with some of the most beautiful wedding vows:
“It’s an extraordinary thing to meet someone who you can bare your soul to, and who will accept you for what you are. I’ve been waiting, what seems like a very long time, to get beyond what I am. And now…I feel like I can finally begin…No measure of time with you will be long enough. But let’s start with forever.”
8) The Vow
Speaking of vows, the Vow is, appropriately, a great source for your own wedding speeches, vows, or readings, especially with this stunning example:
“I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness, to have the patience that love demands, to speak when words are needed, and to share the silence when they are not, to agree to disagree about red velvet cake, to live within the warmth of your heart, and always call it home.”
9) Shakespeare in Love
Shakespeare’s works are near-inexhaustible resources when it comes to romantic lines and speeches, and this speech from the 1998 movie Shakespeare in Love makes for one of our favourite wedding readings from movies:
“I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all. No… not the artful postures of love, not playful and poetical games of love for the amusement of an evening, but love that…overthrows life. Unbiddable, ungovernable, like a riot in the heart, and nothing to be done, come ruin or rapture.”
10) Juno
Juno is another possible source for wedding readings from movies with this quote about the realistic expectations of love and finding the person who’s right for you. It’s also a little more informal, which is great for more laid back wedding speeches:
“In my opinion the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person will still think the sun shines out of your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.”
11) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Finally, we can’t look at romantic quotes and potential wedding readings from movies without this magical line from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring:
“I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.”
