Old Police Cells Museum

Bartholomew Square, Brighton and Hove

About Old Police Cells Museum

A fascinating museum situated below Brighton Town Hall and a most unusual wedding venue! The old police cells in the basement of the Sussex Police museum were part of Brighton's police station from 1830 to 1967 and are now licensed for civil marriage ceremonies. The cells are also a popular part of local ghost-hunting tours as the place is rumored to be haunted by the first chief constable of Brighton, Henry Solomon, who was reportedly murdered in 1844 during a prisoner escape. Go ghost-hunting on your wedding day below ground and enjoy a full tour of the old police cells for some very alternative wedding photos. The museum was created by retired and serving police officers and council staff with the support of the Brighton Princes Trust with assistance from students at the University of Brighton. This distinctly different Brighton wedding venue is a quirky and interesting place to start your life sentence!
