Bursting with romantic charm – South Farm is a stunning wedding venue on the Cambs / Herts border offering superb catering, home grown food, flexible service and complete privacy in wonderful grounds!

Our beautiful barn wedding venue is nestled in the stunning countryside on the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire borders, yet just 40 minutes by train from London, and close to the city of Cambridge. We are accessible yet secluded. Our elegant buildings, formal gardens, wider grounds and charming farm offer a unique backdrop for a perfect wedding day. Venue hire at South Farm is exclusive and our couples and their guests enjoy the whole venue in complete privacy on their wedding day. Guest capacity ranges from small intimate weddings of 20 upwards to larger celebrations numbering up to 150 in the day and 250 in the evening.
Our charming farmhouse and barns have been lovingly converted into stunning venue spaces. We’ve an enviable choice of licensed ceremony options both inside and out. Our pretty garden summerhouse is perfect for idyllic outdoor wedding ceremonies of up to 150 guests. Inside we have four stunning ceremony options.
• The grand Tudor Barn – A magical setting framed with ancient, rustic elm beams adorned in fairy lights and high ceilings offers a dramatic entrance for ceremonies of up to 150 guests.
• The Drawing Room – Situated in our charming farmhouse which is perfect for intimate ceremonies of up to 35 guests as well as being a cosy indoor space during a drink’s reception. It’s also the perfect spot for indoor photos!
• The Old Dairy – with rustic beams, and views over-looking our sheep paddock this charming setting seats up to 100 guests for ceremony. As well as being an indoor ceremony location it also offers an ideal wet weather alternative to a garden ceremony and with views overlooking the Sunset Terrace, the perfect spot to watch the sun go down over the farm.
• The Horse Barn - This delightful barn with beautiful rustic beams can accommodate up to 65 guests for ceremony. It was converted in 2016 into a beautiful event space and also offers a fantastic partially glazed dance floor, with glass panels through to the Tudor Barn, for the evening party as well as a breakfast space for the following morning.
Our choice of versatile spaces offers flexible use throughout. The Tudor Barn, next to our catering kitchen, hosts the wedding breakfast but also offers a stunning ceremony and evening party option. Couples can use all our spaces as they wish - be it drinks in the garden or Old Dairy, after dinner coffee in the Granary or on the sunset terrace or an evening party with dancing in The Horse Barn or Tudor Barn.
We ask couples with their hearts set on getting married outside to choose their favourite indoor option too and if the weather is looking changeable the day before their wedding, then we will set up both options and make a decision with the couple and officiants as close as 45 minutes before ceremony as to whether the ceremony will take place inside or out.
Our wider gardens, orchards and wildflower meadows encircling our formal gardens are managed and improved with conservation, as well as beauty, in mind. Over the years we have planted over 1000 indigenous hardwood trees, heritage orchards and many kilometres of hedgerow – all creating diverse wildlife habitats and a beautiful backdrop for photos too. At South Farm, couples enjoy so many unique settings for wedding photos - our fairy lit tree-lined driveway, pretty herb garden, charming garden bridge, colourful vintage steam engine and enchanting Romany Wagons to name a few! To the delight of our couples and their wedding guests our rare-breed animals, including sheep, white peacocks, chickens and often piglets, reside in harmony in the barnyard and paddocks – and couples often enjoy photos with the piglets on their wedding day!
Our guest accommodation is uniquely charming too. Our five on-site guest bedrooms, including a luxurious suite reserved (and provided as complimentary) for the married couple, are all beautifully decorated in farm heritage style, each with their own charming theme. Our colourful, unique fleet of Romany Wagons offers a lovely glamping option. More adventurous guests can camp in the paddocks and use our purpose-built luxury campers’ bathrooms! In 2016 we added three additional guest bedrooms at our sister property, Fen Bridge Farm, just a mile down the road, increasing our overnight capacity to 31. Our accommodation includes accessible options for disabled guests and all our accommodation is exclusively reserved for our couples and their wedding guests.
Our unique small-holding allows us to be as self-sufficient as possible. We organically grow around 200 different varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs in our small holding, almost all of which are used in our seasonal wedding menus. Our 150 free range chickens give us the majority of our eggs and our pigs provide some of our pork. We are also proud to boast that we produce home grown rose petals for confetti when in season! We pride ourselves on our many eco-friendly principles and initiatives; from our own sustainable water source, used for watering our gardens and keeping them beautifully green even in the dry summer months, to extensive waste recycling. Our home-grown food is harvested daily by our small-holding team and delivered to our in-house catering kitchen where it is prepared and used in our couples’ wedding menus. Our range of sustainable policies help us reduce our carbon footprint whilst creating the perfect backdrop for a dream wedding day.
We provide all essential venue items and much more; from tables, chairs, cutlery, table linen, glassware, wooden easels, log slices, twinkling fairy lights, dancefloors, guest signage, accessible ramps for wheelchair users, to sound systems in every space. Nothing is overlooked!
