About The White Hart at Lydgate
Located in the picturesque village of Lydgate, close to Saddleworth, The White Hart at Lydgate enjoys incredible views across the Pennines, providing the perfect location for a country style wedding.
Offering couples four licensed rooms for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception, it’s a venue that appeals to a wide range of brides and grooms as its able to cater to differing sized parties and a whole host of styles and themes. The Library is the smallest of the rooms, with its high ceilings and oak beams it makes a perfect setting for a civil ceremony and wedding breakfast. It can cater from two to 55 guests for a civil ceremony and for a wedding breakfast of up to 36 guests.
The Dining Room offers an unforgettable and contemporary setting for couples, catering up to 80 guests for a civil ceremony, 55 guests for a wedding breakfast and up to 90 guests for an evening reception. Finally, The Oak Room & Pavilion can cater up to 180 guests for a wedding breakfast and 230 for an evening reception. Alternatively, if your ideal wedding includes a church ceremony, St Anne’s Lydgate is located just opposite The White Hart and offers a warm welcome to all.
The venue has enjoyed a rich and varied history, since it was built in 1788 by local landowner John Buckley. From being the local police station to a schoolhouse, then a weaver’s cottage, the building was then used in the Second World War as a look out point, with the cellars acting as a bomb shelter. The Buckley family sold the pub in 1921 to the Gartside Brewery and it remained brewery-owned until 1987. In June 1994, Charles Brierley bought the freehold of The White Hart Inn and has extended and renovated the pub, turning it into the award-winning venue it is today.
The White Hart also ticks boxes for on-site accommodation, top class service and a talented head chef! The White Hart houses 16 rooms in total, with 12 in the main building. Embracing its local heritage, each room is named after a local dignitary, including Saddleworth’s last Lord of the Manor James Farrar and Ammon Wrigley, a poet from Saddleworth. The rooms come complete with WiFi and are individually furnished with modern ensuite bathrooms. Located just next door to The White Hart, The Cottage offers four family suites, with unique furnishings for each room, all including beautifully styled bathrooms and king size beds. Offering a truly indulgent stay, the Cottage accommodates up to five people per room with ground floor rooms available.
