Pulling out the glue and glitter is one of the easiest and most enjoyable DIYs ever! So today we’re looking at making some sparkly DIY glittered glass heart wedding decor. This pretty overhang looks great over a drinks table and can be used for everything from your wedding reception to a New Year’s Eve party.
What You’ll Need:
- White Blown Glass Hanging Heart Decorations in Large and Small
- PVA glue
- Paintbrush
- Gold glitter
- Fishing line
Instructions:
Step 1: Gather all of your hearts together (the number you use will depend on the space you want to cover and the density of hearts you want. We used 9 hearts over 5-foot space) and remove the white ribbon they come with (you can reattach these again later if you want).
Step 2: Using your paintbrush, apply your glue to your heart; it will be less messy if you do one side of your heart at a time.
Step 3: Sprinkle the glitter over your heart, as much or as little as you want. Then gently tap your heart to dislodge any loose glitter. If done over a piece of scrap paper, the leftover glitter can be funnelled back into your glitter bottle for future use.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other side of your heart, and for your other hearts.
Make your hanging hearts display even more interesting by varying the amount of glitter on each heart; some will be covered two-thirds of the way up the heart, and others halfway, and you may even decorate some with patterns like dots or stripes. You may even want to vary the colours of glitter that you use.
Step 5: On the hearts that are, for example, only covered in glitter halfway up, create an imperfect finish by brushing the top line with your finger; this avoids a completely straight, clean line.
Step 6: Leave your hearts to dry.
Step 7: Secure your hearts with fishing wire to an overhead mechanism. Varying the height of each heart will give a lovely effect. (See our DIY Mini Bottle Overhang and DIY Rustic Glam Chandelier and Fern Overhang articles for how to make an overhead structure).
