Your Sprightly Spring Wedding Palette!

Spring wedding themes are often centred on the idea of new beginnings after a long winter. It is a perfect time to bring colour and nature into your decor, with pretty pastels, bright and bold butterflies or beautiful birdcages. A wealth of fresh, colourful flowers is also an absolute must-have for your big day in spring!

Bridesmaids

Pastels are huge for spring this year so if you want to add some colour to your bridal party, these are the perfect shades in which to do so. So as not to overdo it, have your bridesmaids wear the same neutral colour and add some colour with sashes or brooches. You could also have them wear shoes in all different, bright colours. Small but bright bouquets with yellows and pinks will look great with this theme and will make a great impact in photos.

Centrepieces

Fresh flowers are the perfect centrepieces for spring receptions. If you want to do something different with the flowers, you could add a rustic touch by placing them in an off-white rustic-style bucket or jug and adding plenty of foliage (left). For a more elegant set up, white birdcages filled with fresh flowers of all different colours will look neat and stylish. If your budget doesn’t allow for fresh flowers on every table, why not keep the look completely clean and neutral with wooden signs such as ‘LOVE’ (bottom right) as a centrepiece on alternating tables or ‘MR&MRS’ for the top table. This would be a great way to create a fresh, white-on-white look.

Bouquets

You can save a lot of money on your wedding by buying flowers that are in season in spring, which include: Cherry Blossom, Daffodils, Forsythia, Hydrangea, Lilac, Lilies, Narcissus, Peonies, Sweetpea – we could go on and on. Your wedding florist will be able to advise you of the best in-season flowers for your theme. Typically spring wedding colour themes are full to the brim with pastel shades, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add some elegant and bold touches of colour. Think different shades of pink; turquoise, brown and pops of yellow or peach with glitter shades of silver and gold.

MOTB, Flowergirls, Guests

Light shades and pastels are the order of the day for the remainder of the bridal party and guests. Cream is perfect for the mother-of-the-bride; think of it as the navy of spring – classy, glamorous, sophisticated and a little different than what you’d expect the MOTB to wear. Guests are in-luck for spring weddings this year as the high street is bulging with pretty pastel dresses and pattered short pant-suits. For a bit of a harder edge, team a short pastel dress with a dark blazer.

Jewellery/Accessories

The ultimate wedding hair accessory for the spring or summer bride is a fresh flower, usually placed in a loose side bun. Alternatively you could go all boho and youthful and try a daisy chain headband (fake daisies would be best for this!) and wear your hair in curls. However, if this seems too overpowering or too hippy-ish for your wedding, a diamante or rhinestone floral headpiece will do just as well, such as the rose/vine headpiece above by Debbie Graham Jewellery. Think ‘enchanted forest’ and you are sure to find something magical and pretty, but with a spring twist.

Desserts & Favours

Colour and charm are the order of the day when it comes to wedding favours and desserts. Pretty cupcakes can make a great focal point for a dessert buffet, and colourful favour boxes are an attractive way for your guests to take one home for later. Colourful tealights will look sweet and romantic, and are a great way to tie your theme together.
