Mark and Sharon were married in a beautiful fuchsia pink-inspired wedding in Spain surrounded by their closest family and friends. Sharing their big day with their adorable daughter Lily was one of this loving couple’s most memorable moments of the day! This special day was beautifully planned real wedding by Lyndyloo in Spain.
Bride and Groom: Mark, 28, and Sharon, 31
Wedding Date: September 26, 2011
Wedding Planner: Lyndyloo in Spain
We met… We had known of each other since the early 90s when Mark and my brother went to school together. It was only during my brother’s birthday meal in 2009 that we got chatting and flirting! The next day I messaged him on Facebook and he asked me out for a milkshake – to this day he has still not taken me for that milkshake! When we broke the news to my brother that we were dating, I had to add that it wasn’t to get him back for dating one of my friends (they are now engaged to be married in Ireland this summer!). My brother was happy for us and told me to look after Mark as he is a “delicate flower” – total bromance!
Our proposal… In June 2010, I gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Lily. We are so blessed to have her in our lives and on the eve of her first Christmas in 2010 we were at his parent’s house discussing whether we should open one present each. I now know that this was a trick and my pre-Christmas present was a set-up! Mark’s mum went first and opened what turned out to be a DVD and then it was my turn and Mark picked out a large box for me. I opened it up and there was a smaller, pretty box inside that. I opened that one and there was yet another smaller box – I was quite suspicious by this point! As I opened the final box my eyes were beginning to well-up and I looked up to see that Mark was on one knee. He took the box from me and made a beautiful speech that left both me and his mum in tears. I of course said yes and spent the rest of the evening gazing at my new sparkly ring.
My wedding dress… I was in Spain visiting my parents and they took me to look at dresses. As soon as I saw the dress in Lyndyloo Bridal I fell in love, it was ivory satin, corset tie with a pleated strapless top section bordered at the top and bottom with a band of embellishment. The skirt section was quite understated at the front but at the back had a pleated section that was the train. I looked at the price tag and decided to try on five other dresses instead because it was out of my budget! After trying it on I went for a coffee with my mum and dad and they told me that they wanted to buy it for me! I was so happy and we rushed back to the shop to buy it! I also bought my delicate tiara and veil, which I wore clipped under my updo on the day.
Our bridesmaids… I had one adult bridesmaid Jennie. Jennie’s five-year-old daughter Kiera, Mark’s cousin’s eight-year-old daughter Ella and our daughter Lily, aged 16 months, were flowergirls. Jennie, Kiera and Ella all wore satin fuchsia Dessy (available from Brides & Proms) dresses and Lily wore an ivory John Lewis dress with handmade fuchsia flowers on the sash band.
Our groomsmen… Mark’s best man was his brother, Ben.
Our ceremony… We had a civil ceremony in a remote Spanish Finca in Los Montesinos, called El Bancalito. We decided to have the ceremony on the lawn, the post ceremony drinks and disco in the courtyard and the meal in the marquee. We had 60 guests who had mostly flown in from the UK and all guests were invited for the whole day.
Our wedding theme… We kept to the fuchsia theme with the table settings. I chose to buy charity pins as the table favours – Avon Breast Cancer pins for the ladies, because I’m an Avon rep. and British Heart Foundation pins for the gentlemen. Both charities are close to my heart. Our flowers were a mixture of fuchsia and ivory. My bouquet was fuchsia roses and the bridesmaids had ivory flowers, which were all organised through Lyndyloo in Spain.
Our wedding cake… The top tier was lemon, middle was jam sponge and the base was a fruit cake. It was ivory with pink petals cascading down the tiers.
Our most memorable moment of the day… There were a couple of memorable moments that really stand out to me. One was when I came out of the villa we were staying in and lots of people who were passing by or relaxing on the beach stopped to watch me and clap and wave. I have to admit that it made me feel quite special! Followed by my dad saying how proud he was, caused me to well-up and fight back the tears. Walking down the aisle to such a beautiful piece of music being played was a dream to me and I’m so happy that I arranged that as a surprise to Mark as he loved it just as much. Also, for both of us probably the most memorable thoughts of the day are how wonderful our daughter was. It was as if she knew what a special day it was. Everyone commented on how perfectly behaved and beautiful she was!
