Whoever said getting married on Friday the 13th was bad luck obviously never had a wedding organised by Chiara Serni from Weddings in Tuscany! Agne and Dominique put aside the superstition and said ‘I do’ in an intimate wedding ceremony in Florence and continued the celebration with an entertainment packed wedding reception in Tuscany. We’re sure you’re going to enjoy this week’s real wedding as much as we did.
Bride and Groom… Agne and Dominique
Wedding date… Friday 13th September 2013, Friday the 13th! But our love is stronger than any superstition
We met… At a fondue restaurant, typical Swiss place. He was with his friend and I was with mine, my coat dropped from my chair and he picked it up. The rest is history.
The proposal… He proposed to me. Very simple, but heart touching. He was home from one of his numerous business trips; we’d spent a nice evening together enjoying each other’s company. We were already in bed when he said “Agne?” But in such a special way that I knew with my whole heart what the next question will be. And I was right. Surely there was only one possible answer.
We knew it was ‘the one’… It was a love at first sight, first date, first touch, and first kiss.
Length of engagement… Around one year. We first contracted a civil marriage and another year later we promised to love and to cherish each other forever in a beautiful church in Florence, Italy.
How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day? Confetti inspired me.
My dress was… From Cymbeline bridal boutique, it’s a well-established Paris brand. I happen to live right next door to the boutique and I have always found their dresses fascinating and truly stunning, elegant and chic. As soon as I needed a dress I knew I didn’t need to look any further. I love lace, it’s feminine and sensual, and for my dream dress it was a must. Once I saw my dress, I knew it was ‘the one’ even before I tried it on. I tried between 5 and 6 dresses, but in my heart I knew that the lace one was my favourite. My friends only confirmed it. Unfortunately my mum and my sister could not accompany me, because I live in Switzerland, but I sent them lots of pictures.
Our wedding ceremony was… Held at the church of Santi Michele et Gaetani in Florence, Italy. There were about 50 people, our closest and dearest ones. The church was gorgeous and the flowers that we selected rendered it even more beautiful. What we really loved was the string quartet we hired to play during the ceremony; it added a special touch to our amazing ceremony. Everything went smoothly and there were lots of tears of excitement and happiness.
My favourite part of the wedding was… The touching and exciting part of walking down the aisle. It is difficult to describe in words what I felt. It will remain in my heart as one of the most beautiful memories. We loved our wedding, we have spent so much time planning everything to the tiniest details and for us it was our dream wedding. Our dream came true.

Our wedding reception was… Held at Castello di Vincigliata in Fiesole Firenze, Tuscany. Once we chose Italy, we knew our wedding had to be in a castle. Italy is famous for the many old and well-preserved beautiful castles. Castello di Vincigliata was recommended to us by our wedding planner Chiara.
Our wedding theme was… Vintage. Italy is a beautiful old country with its interesting history and charming architecture. It was really a perfect place and country for our special day. We had vintage touches everywhere, in our wedding invitations, name cards, cutlery, at our reception, even my wedding dress.
For our first dance we… Chose I have a dream by Bakermatt to get the party started.
What is your advice for other brides? There would be many, I wouldn’t know where to start and where to finish. However I would single out a few important points. If you can, try to plan and accomplish things you want in advance so you don’t end up exhausted trying to finish everything last minute. Relax! Even if there are tiny things that don’t go the way you planned, the guests will not notice them. When selecting things whatever it is, look until you find something you really like, don’t settle for something you are not sure about. Take time to choose the right photographer and spend time to discuss what you expect from them. Even if they are good photographers you might have a totally different idea opinion on the pictures. Do hire a videographer. And most importantly don’t forget to enjoy your day; after all it is YOUR special day.
For our honeymoon we spent… 3 weeks in Brazil, a surprise trip, all organised by my wonderful husband. It was simply amazing and unforgettable! We started with Rio living its daily rhythm, discovering its people and the city, then flew to and stayed at the National Park of waterfalls of Iguasu that was simply breathtaking. We continued to Buzios, which has a wonderful nightlife; and ended our honeymoon in a fantastic Kenoa resort that is situated on a beautiful beach.
