Kate and Rich’s real wedding is a much welcomed break from this week’s weather. With the help of the very talented team at Ibiza Wedding shop, our beautiful couple were able to have their dream wedding on the very same beach they met in Ibiza! We’re sure you’re going to enjoy this wedding as much as we did, also keep an eye out for a very special guest at the reception.
Bride and Groom… Kate and Rich
Wedding date… Friday 28th June 2013
We met… In Ibiza in 2004. We both worked for a holiday company.
The proposal… Rich proposed on holiday in Ibiza on June 28th 2012. We were having a meal watching the sunset when Rich asked if the food was good enough for our wedding meal, I replied “of course yes” and Rich said “well why don’t we then?” I thought he was joking at first.
We knew it was ‘the one’… When I spilt Sangria all over Richards brand new expensive yellow t-shirt, I expected him to be a bit cheesed off but he just laughed and said “at least you drank most of it!” Rich would most likely say when he saw me dancing in a certain pair of red tracksuit bottoms.
Length of engagement… Exactly a year!
How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day? I used Confetti to find bridesmaid dresses and suppliers from shoes to bridesmaid gifts.
Our bridesmaids were… My younger sister Sally, one of my best friends Rachel and my niece Ruby who had a special fan instead of flowers. We had one of Richards oldest friends, Matt as best man. We didn’t want Groomsmen as we didn’t want things too traditional.
My dress was… A Benjamin Roberts dress. After going to three shops in Bedfordshire where we now live I was worried I wouldn’t find one I liked. I wanted something vintage, light and something that had a bit of a Spanish style to it without being a big Flamenco style dress. I really didn’t see anything I felt was me so Rachel suggested we look in Yorkshire my home county. So York and Harrogate it was. As soon as I walked in the shop in Harrogate I saw the bottom of the dress straight away as I had seen it online. I tried it on last, it must have been about the 20th dress I tried, I loved it before the assistant had fitted me in. No tears but relief more than anything ! The only thing is this meant a 6 hour round trip for each fitting – but a great excuse to see my family and friends.
Our wedding ceremony was… Playa De Comte, Ibiza. Simple, elegant and very chilled. We just wanted everyone to feel relaxed, enjoy the scenery and have a fun night. The ceremony was on the rocks overlooking a bay. We had 60 guests in total, most had travelled from the UK and were very pleased to have an excuse to holiday in Ibiza. I’m a huge Kylie fan so I walked down the rocks to ‘Love at First Sight’ the slow version from the Abbey Road Sessions album.
Our wedding theme was… Colours to compliment the scenery, so we had shimmery blue and gold invites with real shells, place cards to match, with pastel coloured shell sequins scattered on the table. The Bridesmaid dresses were Buttermilk which matched the Ivory roses perfectly.
Our wedding photographer was… Anne Walker
Our favourite part of the wedding was… Standing on the rocks with Rich looking out to sea, with the perfect weather and all our friends and family with us just made it for us.
Our wedding reception was held at… Ses Roques Restaurant Playa de Comte. It was easy; we love this beach and wanted somewhere that was just us so when we got in touch with Candi at Ibiza Wedding Shop she knew just the place.
Did anything funny or unusual happen at your wedding? Yes, the host called me Kathy which got laughs all round. During my Dads speech he announced there was another man chasing me in Ibiza, everyone was looking around looking worried and I wondered what on earth he was on about until all our nephews, my brother law and Richards dad all stood up in Robbie Williams masks! I got very excited and almost jumped out of my seat. Probably one of the funniest moments was towards the end of the evening when the groom and his friends got a bit carried away to ‘I’m sexy and I Know it’; thank god they didn’t have the leopard print pants to match!
Our wedding was unique and special because… It’s the island where we met, had our first date, the best days off with some people who are still close friends and it’s the place we feel at home. Our meal was Tapas, grilled meats and paella – very different to a traditional wedding and we had Fire Dancers after the Sunset.
Our first dance was… You’ve Got the Love by Candi Staton
What is your advice for other brides? Don’t overdo it, just do what makes you truly happy and don’t do anything just to try and impress.
Our honeymoon was… To Argentina, Uruguay and finished up in Rio De Janerio, we waited 6 months to go. Argentina is one of the most amazing places you can visit, places like the Moreno Glacier, Punta Tombo penguin colony, Mendoza Vineyards, Iguazu falls through to Brazil and on to Rio all an amazing adventure.
