Their taxi didn’t turn up on a sweltering day, and they almost missed a romantic meal out – but got engaged instead! See their gorgeous sun-drenched wedding in Ibiza, planned by the experts at the Ibiza Wedding Shop.
Bride & Groom: Lucie and Brent
Wedding Date: Thursday 25th August 2011
Wedding Planner: Candi at Ibiza Wedding Shop
We met… Brent and I met in London at a friend’s BBQ in May 2009, in London.
Our proposal… Brent proposed on August 20th in Ibiza when a planned out evening didn’t necessarily go to plan! We booked a meal at Restaurant Sa Capella but unfortunately there were no taxis available to bring us there! The journey involved a boat trip and a few mile trek up a steep high road with no pavements, all dressed up, in sweltering heat. Needless to say I wasn’t overly impressed but the meal was amazing and after getting a taxi back to the Bay, Brent proposed on a walk around the marina.
My dress… I ‘accidentally’ found my dress on my lunch hour in October 2010! I had visions of my Mum and I spending weekends together, selecting different styles to see which suited me best. But I only ever visited one shop and it was the third dress I tried on. I thought I wanted a white fishtail dress with straps and minimal detail. But as soon as the third dress – a Maggie Sottero Margaret dress – slipped over my head I just knew it was the one! The dress went against everything I previously thought I wanted as it was strapless, had a bit of bling and the longest train I had ever seen. This dress was also probably more suited for a winter wedding, not a wedding abroad, but the day was so perfect I never even noticed the heat! There was never a time when I had a second thought or wanted to keep on looking.
Our bridesmaids… I had four bridesmaids, all of whom are my best friends. They all wore asymmetrical blue dresses from Oasis and silver shoes. I bought each bridesmaid a teardrop necklace and teardrop earrings to match the set I was wearing on the day.
Our groomsmen… Brent chose his best friend David as his best man. They grew up together and have been best friends since they were five! Brent, David, my Dad and Brent’s stepdad all wore grey suits from Marks & Spencer with white shirts and blue ties. We tried to go for suits as light as possible!
Our wedding theme… We chose white and blue with a bird theme as we wanted to match with the beautiful blue sky and white buildings in Ibiza. We incorporated lovebirds on the wedding stationery, on the wedding favour packaging, the wedding bubble bottles and the wedding cake! The tables were all white with white tablecloths and they featured centrepieces with floating candles and white petals. Each place setting had a wedding favour box, which was either dark blue, light blue or white (I even made a spreadsheet to make sure each person had the correct favour!) Each box had a personalised blue sticker with our wedding date and names on.
Our ceremony… We had a civil ceremony at a registery office in the UK and the ‘wedding’ in Ibiza. We got married and had our dinner and evening entertainment at the Villa Can Coves, San Miguel in Ibiza. The wedding ceremony took place in the Villa’s gardens and we had dinner around the pool, before dancing and a spot of swimming! We had just over 50 wedding guests who all made a holiday out of their trip to Ibiza. It was amazing to spend the whole day with our close friends and family. Most of our guests had also met at the stag and hen dos which made it even more relaxed and enjoyable.
The flowers… Candi, our Ibiza wedding planner, organised my flowers and they were amazing. To survive the heat we chose white roses so my bridesmaids and I all had bouquets, the men had rose buttonholes and my Mum, Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law had rose corsages. I still have my bouquet after it survived the plane journey home.
The menu… Candialso organised the catering and the food was out of this world! We had canapés and tapas with Sangria before dinner was served. Dinner included an array of fresh seafood and meats cooked on a charcoal BBQ, served with salads ranging from mixed salad with strawberries and goat’s cheese, lentil salad with bacon and mustard vinaigrette, and summer tomato and mozzarella salad! The presentation was also amazing and we had so much feedback about how much the guests loved the food and variety. The caterers also made our cake for us. We found a cake idea we liked online and via Candi the caterers made us a bespoke cake. The cake fitted in with our bird theme and ended up feeding us for the rest of our week’s stay in Ibiza – it was mammoth!
The entertainment… The wedding started at 5pm when it was slightly cooler (it was still about 38 degrees!) so the entertainment was later in the evening. We had bongos at sunset, followed by a Pacha DJ entertaining us for the rest of the evening.
Our most memorable moment… The whole day was just amazing but to choose one moment we would choose the time when we walked outside and saw our friends and family in the garden where the ceremony was taking place.
