As ever, the understated elegance of the classic bridal look is still the most popular style with nearly half of this year’s brides (47%) having chosen a classic look, followed by 27% of brides who chose to wear a vintage style wedding dress, and of those, 5% a specifically 1920’s ‘Great Gatsby’ look. Only 7% of brides chose to wear the newer, more informal bohemian style.
Most of this year’s brides have chosen to wear a classic strapless A-line wedding dress in ivory with a sweetheart or illusion neckline, and have bought their gowns from local bridal boutiques as opposed to buying online.
Sweetheart Illusion Neckline: Most Popular Wedding Style 2017
A beautiful and feminine look, the illusion neckline is so called because it creates the illusion of a line across the neck by using lace or sheer fabrics or both. It can be teamed with sleeves or a low illusion back, suits all styles of gown and is extremely flattering for brides who want to cover up but not completely.

The sweetheart neckline proved to be the most popular this year with an amazing 38% of brides, many choosing an illusion sweetheart neckline. The ubiquitous strapless gown was the most popular style worn by more than a quarter of brides (27%). Unusual cap sleeves are now more popular than ever with 17% of brides choosing to wear them while only 8% of brides wore long sleeves and just 3% wore chose a halterneck style.
A third of the brides we surveyed (31%) chose to wear a flattering A-line gown on their big day. The next most popular style, perhaps surprisingly in contrast to previous years, was the long sheath dress (19%), with a further 17% wearing a fishtail or mermaid style and just 14% going for the fairytale ballgown. Only 6% of brides went for a tea-length dress and just 1% of brides opted to wear a two-piece bodice and skirt. Only 2 of the brides surveyed told us they wore trouser suits.

The most popular wedding dress styles 2017 comes from the results of the Confetti wedding dress survey, that had over 1,400 responses from brides-to-be planning their weddings. The survey was sponsored by Whole Resources – Justin Alexander, Justin Alexander Signature, Sweetheart Gowns, Sincerity Bridal and Lillian West.
