Want a Rolls Royce but only have enough for a Skoda? If you’re looking for ways to cut corners on your wedding cars but still want to arrive in style, here are 4 ways you could save money on your wedding transport.
1. Take the bus
I don’t mean the local bus into town, I mean save money in style by spending your whole transport budget on a double decker bus. This can work out more cost effective than hiring the usual two or three wedding cars and will help guests out if there could be difficulty finding parking at each venue. On a sunny day an open-top bus is a real show-stopper!
Book the bus to do several trips if your venues are close by so your bridal party and most guests arrive at the ceremony by bus, then send the driver back for the bride and her father to arrive later as is tradition. Or break with tradition to save more money and all travel together! After the ceremony everyone can simply hop back on the bus to return to the reception!
An even cheaper alternative to the double decker bus, though not as stylish, is a coach or minibus. Decorate it with wedding ribbons and flowers to make it more special. The old London Routemaster double deckers will seat up to 72 so they’re ideal for smaller guestlists.
2. Minicabs and taxis
If you want to have amazing wedding transport on your big day but can’t afford to hire vintage cars for you and your dad, and your groom and best man, and your mum and all the bridesmaids, it’s fine to hire just one amazing car for the wedding photos and have the rest of your bridal party arrive in slightly less than amazing minicabs or be driven by friends or family.
Alternatively, find a local cab company offering stylish new cars or hire a white London taxi for something just a little bit special. Ask if you can decorate the cab with your own wedding car decorations for the journey and add your own flowers and bubbly too.
3. Get on your bikes
If your wedding venues are close enough, be environmentally friendly and save hundreds by getting on your bikes. Brides, you won’t be able to do this in a ball gown so there’s another saving! Decorate your bicycles with flowers and ribbons or pearls and consider investing in a tandem that you can use for years to come!
4. Traditional walk
If you’re lucky enough to live close to your ceremony and reception venues then do the traditional thing and walk to your wedding with your bridal party and all your guests following. That’ll make one amazing wedding photo. Just don’t forget to invest in some ivory umbrellas, just in case!
Whatever wheels you ride in on your wedding day, just keep in mind that it’s the end journey that is the important part, not the travelling.
